1) about to be a dad...distracted possibly
2) a little slow on the uptake...not Jordan slow, but not lightning either. Likely has not picked up the defense very well.
3) thinking too much...playing slow
After the obvious troublemakers, this is exactly the kind of player that gets into Philbin's doghouse (a la Rishard last season). You just hope he sticks with it despite that but he's the kind of dude that really needs a coach to invest and believe in him.

He looked lethargic in preseason. Unfortunately i think the dolphins screwed him up, you had a situational pass rusher that could also make an impact on special teams and they tried to change him into the luke warm bowl of rice that is koa misi.

This is easily the worst decision this staff has made to date...unless he was late for a meeting or something no way the only legitimate upside backer in the stable should be inactive...no way

He's a one trick pony at this point in his career. The only thing you can do is bring him in on 3rd and long to rush the passer. He can't cover, and he can't set the edge in the run game. Not sure why he hasn't figured it out, but the coaches won't reserve a spot on the 53 for a limited player.
God, did you watch him rush the passer in preseason?? It was like he was in quicksand.

Something has happened with him. He is slower and seems to be worse than he was last year. We know he can't play worth a damn against the run but now he can't rush the passer? Sounds like he's useless.

He sucks and is wasting a roster spot.
One thing i remember reading recently was the staff wanted him to put on weight in the off season. He put on 30-35lbs and it slowed him down. Way down. Some guys can handle putting on weight and it doesnt effect them. Others, well......, better call jenny!!
Like hoops mentioned, the staff not getting him involved after his lightning in a bottle debut last year was down right criminal. Bet billichek was making notes on him all through that game. Had mccain been on the pats team, biil would have made him a pro bowler at some position.
Bet he is waiting for him to hit the waiver wire.
