Well let me say this. Guys in the NFL who offer up anonymous comments often have an agenda. It's why when I see that "NFL sources" have said very nice things about Bill Lazor, I take them with a grain of salt. It's also why when you see "NFL executives" anonymously taking shots at draft prospects, for instance, you have to be skeptical because they probably want that player to fall to them.

In short, NFL sources often say what is in their best interest, and it might be in the best interest of some "NFL sources" not to hire someone who would make the Dolphins a contender again.

No matter who we get, it'll be nice to actually look forward to the draft with optimism as opposed to just hoping we draft a good player via dumb luck.

I'd be thrilled with the hire. I think he's our best chance to turn this thing around, based on what I know.

The fact that Armando is already ripping him leads me to believe it's very likely.

Whoever is chosen as the next GM Armando will make a negative comment about it. If it's Xanders he'll make up something about him not picking the players as you said. If it's anyone else they won't have prior GM experience and we passed over Xanders who did and that person would never have picked any players or have had final say before.

You can absolutely and easily put a negative spin on any hire and Armando will. We'll just have to hope they pick the best candidate possible and that he brings in the most talent possible.

Exactly. That is Armando's shtick. He capitalizes off of negativity surrounding the Dolphins because that's what he is good at. He is a schlock tabloid writer. If the Dolphins ever become a model franchise, Mando will be out of a job because he doesn't bring anything else to the table. He isn't a talented writer, he doesn't have a great insight on anything related to football. The only other gig he could possibly get is working for some third rate tabloid you see in grocery stores...

That's the thing, he isn't required to produce anything on his sources. They are anonymous sources for a reason, and I have no doubt that he has made up sources in the past. He has been caught lying on several occasions

I don't see "the final say" as an issue. None of the candidates had final say, but Xanders was highest up the ladder as a GM compared to other candidates. Secondly, Xanders himself openly says in interviews that for example John Elway had to give a pick the final blessing. So I agree with Mando when he says Xanders is "not all that" as far as the argument that he actually was the final blesser of a pick in the past. For me, this argument used as a pro or con a candidate is off the table because none of them were the final decision maker. Neither was Ireland prior to here. What Xanders brings tho is far more than what we've had--track record of structuring successful drafts and FA, long, broad and deep FO experience, good personality and team work, and innovation.

Hayden, Xanders worked as a scout for a number of years. He was also a coach on the '98 Falcons Super Bowl team. This is not just some numbers guy they brought in. He has a good football background.

Well it was laughable that he claimed he hasn't spoken to Jeff Ireland since Jeff got fired.

He clearly got something either from Jeff, or from someone acting as a direct proxy from Jeff to run with some of the stuff he's come out with. Nobody else who is not employed by the organization would have known those things.

I know that you thought highly of Licht as a candidate. Would you have any issues if he were hired?

I just have this vibe based purely on a gut feeling that Licht comes across as someone with whom there would be a collaborative relationship. Plus I like his strong player personnel background. Xanders comes across as slick. Again, this is just my gut reaction unsupported by any evidence.
