This article brought a smile to my face. Hope it's true and not just a lot of hot air.

(Are you going to buy yourself something nice?) – “No, I’m going to save it.”

(A watch? A car?) – “No, I’m going to save it.” – MiamiDolphins.com

Howard, if he holds true to what he is saying, is doing himself a huge favor. Players often buy expensive jewelry or they buy extravagant homes and cars, few ever really take care of themselves for a future that will inevitably lead to a life without football.

“I want to communicate with the new guys coming in. I’m really a guy that doesn’t talk a lot, but I want to lead by example and I’m also going to communicate more and help my guys out, help my team win.”

A few years ago I sat next to Luther Elliss (former first rounder from the Lions who retired in 05 I think) on an airplane flying into Detroit. I think he’s now into coaching but at the time the NFL was using him as a mentor to young players to help them manage their money, flying him to different clubs and sharing his story. It was pretty incredible hearing his story. Dude was a first rounder, went to the Pro Bowl a few times and went bankrupt a few years after he retired. He said not only did he spend a lot, but people would come out of the woodwork with needs they thought his money could solve....distant relatives and old friends and such. And unfortunately it’s pretty common.

Sounds like X is ahead of the curve in that regard and I wish him and his family the best. God knows what I would have done with millions to spend and being 20 something years old.

And yes, I asked Luther if he’d ever sacked Marino and he sort of perked up and said “Yeah, I got to Danny a few times.”

Someone posted a great article about X during last season, but I forget the source (It may have been a MMQB piece by Peter King, but I can’t remember for sure) talking about his upbringing and how determined he was to get out and help his family. He’s a good kid. I wish him nothing but success on and off the field.

You can have nice things. You can have a nice home. You can have a nice car. You can have jewelry.

For the kind of money he's now making, he can have all those things with a fraction of the interest on his earnings.

Just save the majority and don't overdo it. It's not rocket science.

I don't make millions of dollars, and I have all those things.

I doubt you have the kinds of "nice things" and home and car and jewelry they're referring to here.

I dunno. I have an expensive watch I never wear. I have a nice car.

He says he's not going to buy either to save his money.

My point was he should enjoy his money, buy what he wants, and save the rest (which would still be like 99%).

They are not asking about buying a new movado or a new corvette..
They want to hear him respond with rapper answers.
As a 2nd rd pick his lifestyle is plenty fine im sure. I believe thats his point, nothing new is needed

Here's the article that came out originally last year on ESPN and got bumped up a couple of week ago about Xavien's family and upbringing:

http://www.espn.com/blog/miami-dolp...owards-bloodstained-evolution-from-fifth-ward

Talks about his growing up in Houston's Fifth Ward. For reference, the Houston Press says: "Say the words 'Fifth Ward' to most Houstonians, and they'll think crime, poverty and desperation." Xavien's older sister, Ashley, is in jail on a 35-year sentence for Felony Murder (for a car crash during a high speed chase). X helps take care of Ashley's son.

"Me and Will (Bengals cornerback William Jackson also from the same neighborhood) changed a lot of guys' mindset that is in Fifth Ward right now. It was always negative going around Fifth Ward," Howard said. "The shootings, drugs -- you can't stop. It's still going on. A bullet don't have a name on it. But I want kids to know they can make it out too."

He has come too far to fall back or short of his ultimate goals.

"I go back to Fifth Ward to give myself motivation. I go back to remind myself I ain't made it yet," Howard said. "I go back to tell myself, if you don't do this thing right, you could be back here."

Plot twist, he's 76.5 mil in debt and couldn't buy a new car or house even if he wanted to .

Jk

I wonder if this is some of the off-season business training with Ross? If done properly he can invest his money in low risk venues (even a CD) and live off his interest earnings.

It’s a tough problem to have. I would definitely be ULTRA conservative with my investments with that much coin.

On the intrest alone he support the Howard family for generations.

You can flip 1 million to multiple millions by investing it in CDs and other similar accounts.
