y did we draft roth?

we traded surtain and not madison for a few simple reasons..... no one wants sam madison! and we certainly wouldn't get anything better than a 4 for him. he can't tackle and has been on the decline since 2000. he's pretty good in the right system for him.

plus, surtain would be a free agent and we'd have to trade him or lose him and get nothing in return.

Actually we did need a DE and DT's.
Our entire DL is aging with zero depth.

but we couldve gotten those this years draft.Theres so much talent in this years draft at des and dts-mathias kirwanuka from bc,kyle williams from lsu, jesse mahelona from tenn, rodrique right from texas and so on

WE LIKED ROTH. END OF STORY. you don't say lets pass on a good talented and passionate kid now, because there might be someone next year. not to mention, dline is far and away the position that is most hit or miss.

clearly learn something and acknowledge the fact that the coach and gm know more than you do.... no matter how much lee corso you watch.

Orton was on the board and I'm really impressed by him so far. He is better than anyone we have right now IMO.

I will agree that Matt Roth is no Jason Taylor. I will also agree that that statement is a blatantly obvious one that adds nothing to this argument.

I think for posters under the age of 16 they should have Finheaven Europe, for new posters to develope their posting ability before they step up to the main board

mods- please don't ban me, but can we continue to let this clown continue talking? look, kid. i know you're 14, but shut up. you don't know what you're talking about. roth is far better than a 6th round pick. relax its the preseason... and if saban thought roth was a better pick up then frye, i'll go with that... he has more coaching experience then you have LIFE EXPERIENCE JUST SIT DOWN AND SHUT UP.... what? you, a 14 year old kid with zero experience knows more than saban? :fire:

there should be an age limit on this place. or atleast a ban on people who make such asinine comments.
:yeahthat:

ehhh Roth does have a sack and a pick this pre-season to go along with 10 or so tackles in about 8 quarters worth of work lets do a little math....over 16 games thats 8 sacks 8 picks and 80 tackles id take those numbers.... :D 8 PICKS haha.

Roth will be a stud... give him time. The only QB I was sold on was Alex Smith. Quit bitching and let the guy play.

Would you rather have Miami spend the money on Alex Smith, who will probably be an average qb. Kyle Orton and Frye might be the only guys that will be good. Next year looks like the best year to get a good perhaps franchise qb, Brees, Leinhart, Chris Leak, maybe Vince Young, but Omar Jacobs also, it's along ways away, and I'm not really thinking anything about the draft now. I just want Miami to win games, of course, and be competitive.Qb isn't the only hole that the team has. They are filling some spots, at least for the future with the rookies Miami drafted. It takes time for a DE to develop. I'm glad that Roth has already shown positive plays, you just have to be patient. This Defense is aging, that's why I'm glad Miami drafted Crowder and Daniels who are playing well, and have shown the potential to be really good players. As far as Kyle Orton and Frye goes, this is preseason, to think that a qb is great or good, because he plays well in the preseason, is rediculous. Maybe, they will be good, maybe they won't. All I can say is that there have been qbs that have been preseason all stars, but weren't much in the real games when the real pressure was on. That goes for WR's,too.

The 14 year old has a far better grasp of football talent, or lack thereof, than many of the blinders-on posters in this thread.

Since I've been posting here we had the Rick Spielman apologists. Next the A.J. Feeley apologists. Now that ever astute crew has switched to defending Matt Roth. Eventually, the results and the truth will be remarkably similar.

I've watched football for 30+ years, taped and evaluated hundreds of games. Last week I posted Roth looked like a 4th or 5th rounder, not a 2nd. So go ahead and rip the the 14-year-old for estimating 6th. After watching Roth on every play tonight I might be right there with him.

Matt Roth is a shockingly small DE with only one gear, no explosive strength, very few moves or agility, and decisively mediocre athletic ability for this level. You watch him and wonder where any improvement can come from. Even an aging backup QB eluded Roth with ease near the left sideline. He reminds me of the overmatched players on our '84 defense, the ones Bill Walsh was diplomatically trying not to criticize too harshly prior to the Super Bowl. Not very big, fast, strong or quick was his summation and that fits Roth.

No one is saying they knew this at the time of the draft. Roth made tons of plays at Iowa and appeared to translate to a poor man's David Pollack type in the NFL, a constant motor overcoming his lack of great talent. I was desperate to select Khalif Barnes with that pick at #46, but the Roth choice seemed fine to me. Every year guys move to the next level and stun you will much more or much less ability than it appeared in college or the combine. In Roth we identified a dud, and that will be an extreme rarity under Saban.
