High marks: One of the best drafts this year. Coach Nick Saban really did his homework, then got some luck. Running back, inside linebacker (for the occasional 3-4 look) and defensive end were all big needs, and Saban filled them with great talent. Running back Ronnie Brown's reputation goes without saying, but second-round defensive end Matt Roth and third-round inside linebacker Channing Crowder also have first-round talent. Cornerback Travis Daniels will help with the loss of Patrick Surtain. Offensive tackle Anthony Alabi and defensive tackle Kevin Vickerson are both great projects for both lines. Saban really did well with every single pick he had.

Low marks: Late-round projects at quarterback and wide receiver would have been nice pickups. Final grade: A-plus

Glad to see somebody giving us the right grade that we deserve.

Let's remember that these picks have to produce. The grade we should be waiting for is after next year. I agree though, this has been one of the best drafts i've ever seen from the phins.

I agree with most of the report, but:

"Running back, inside linebacker (for the occasional 3-4 look) and defensive end were all big needs.."
DE is a big need???? don't get me wrong, I like the roth pick, because i like the talent for a second-rounder, but it solidifies what was already a solid Dline -- perhaps already the strongest unit on our team. I don't think it's unreasoable to say that we now have (when healthy) one of the best D-lines in the NFL. JT, KC, Bowens, and then you add chester, roth, holliday, and david bowens for depth -- both of these latter two are capable of 5-8 sacks a year when starting.

I truely believe that this front 3 or 4, will help mitigate the loss of Surtian in the backfield,a nd make poole/howard's life as a first-year starter much easier.

I am extemely happy with this draft. I think Saban did well. Nobody is gonna be able to mess with our defense this year. Even without Pat.

we got our late round projects at QB and WR in Berlin and Davis.

we're doing very well in UDFA as well. I really like the Berlin and Holmes pickup.

agree 100% best draft we had in a while saban did do his homework:jetssuck:

met all our needs or not - sabans draft is very impressive - i love it

I guess they got their "project QB" with Berlin, but I would much rather have taken a chance on McPherson.
Sage won't ever be anything more than a #3. With Feeley and Gus, the Phins have a chance to develop a QB. Hopefully Berlin can do something, but I won't be holding my breath.
Still...great draft.
And UDFA pick-ups

no doubt it's an excellent draft. i really really really wanna see a lot more 3-4 played. i think the players and the depth is perfect for it

I like the Brock Berlin pickup in UDFA. The best part is that he will be cheap and we didn't have to use a draft pick on him.
