%%% Oh ye of little faith 11 days into training camp and remember these guys have done no live tackling in camp so far. At this point everyone is thinking about what they are doing and not playing instinctively yet.... veterans and rookies. This is a totally new system and EVERYONE besides Daniels and Ferotte are executing it for the first time in live action.

I was also premature in criticizing Hward last night for getting beat on that double move until I watched it again and realized it was a blitz and naturally he bit on the first move because in that situation the QB should not have time to complete that pass, the pass rush didn't get there. To Howard that stop move had to look like a sight adjustment by Mushin and he was breaking off his route because of the blitz and he rightfully broke on the route. Quite frankly the blitzers were at fault in that situation.

Lets look at the bright side for a moment:

AJ threw the ball well when he had time.... if Thompson makes that catch they score on that drive.

The Bears threw everything at them by showing mutiple blitzes that are not usually seen in a preseason contest. After the first qtr they started to handle it better.

The O-line that started the game had only praticed together for two or three days.

Gus showed good command of the offense and moved the team pretty well. we actually saw a couple of deep throws last night.

If you listened to Rick's interview you heard him say that his goal was to make sure that he could adjust to the speed of the game and he wanted to work on getting his timing down and he said it's no different than before. He will be fine and he has eight weeks to get stronger.

The Bears had almost 400yds passing and about 200 of those came in the last 10 minutes of the game agains't guys that will soon be asked to find their lifes work.

so all in all it wasn't a bad first showing for a team that is learing a totally new offense and defense.

Nick will find four guys to play in the secondary...remember Lance just got here and Jones and Tillman are being slowed by injury. these guys have four more games to learn the system and each other. I think they will be fine.

Once they start reacting instead of thinking then we will know how good/bad this team will be.
