It means he may start next to allen:D
Boy, I really hope he starts. I was just watching our yearbook the other day, and I think most people forget those two game-changing plays he made against the chargers and jets. He gets better every year, and this I think even some people on this board might be suprised how well he does.

Renaldo Hill was signed to a 3 year contract that basically averages $2 million per year. There's a reason. I think Naddi is gonna start at SS next to Allen at FS.

And by the way FS/SS vs. RS/LS thing is really just semantics. I don't particularly know why Saban chose to "school" everyone on that particular issue that one time. It's like if a brit asked you where he could find the "lift" and you said "we don't have a 'lift', we have an elevator." I don't know if there's a single team in the NFL that switches their safeties based on the strength of the formation. If they made switches pre-snap based on how the O was lining up, the O could just go hurry up or formation shift and either ruin the formation matching or snap the ball while the D isn't settled yet.

For all intents and purposes a RS is a FS and a LS is a SS.

renaldo hill will in all likeliness be the starter, but bell will play. I think bell is sabans secret weapon, because bell seems to be doing something different in every game.

I don't know about secret weapon, but with athleticism like his and Jason Allen's, you put Bell in dime packages and you have a lot of options as far as secondary blitzes and coverage changes go.

Do you see at least a slight possibility that Yeremiah Bell could beat out Renaldo Hill?

Not really. I'd like to say that I do...because I love the way Yeremiah Bell has constantly improved himself...but I just don't.

Renaldo is one of Saban's guys. Coached him at Michigan State. Coached his brother (remember Ray Hill? he was perennial camp fodder here for a while, made the roster some too). Knows the family. Gave him a huge contract considering his name value.

And quite frankly reports I've heard say that Renaldo Hill and Jason Allen have stood out as the two best safeties in camp. That's pretty incredible too because unlike Allen, Renaldo is not super athletic, and he's more of a tackling machine (like Tebucky Jones, coincidence?) and yet he's looking like perhaps our best safety in padless mini camps where no hitting is allowed?

Naddi's like this year's Travis Daniels. He's the guy you don't have to teach much to because he already knows everything about what Saban wants, and he can even teach the others how Saban likes it. He and Jack Hunt are probably Saban's two player-teachers in the secondary. Unfortunately for Hunt, he doesn't have the skills to make it on the roster...but Naddi certainly does.

Some GMs really raised their eyebrows at the signing, said you know Renaldo Hill isn't a guy you hear about often but he's the type of willing tackler that helps you win games. Oakland fans loved the guy, surprisingly.

He didn't do it one time, he has done it multiple times. I just don't subscribe to the idea Saban just says something for the hell of it.

That is precisely why I wish Allen and Bell starts, they have the potential to make something happen every play....but you're right about the contract Hill signed...but if Bell outplays him in ps..then bell should start regardless of the money, even though that means a lot in salary cap football today.

Just think of the speed.

I want Bell to start because with his athletism he would help the team a lot. Of course he needs the mental game as well. If he has the mental game, he would be so great.

IMO, you put two young inexperienced safeties out there, one of which has had notable problems in tackle discipline (angles mostly), and you're asking to have big runs sprung on you.

Renaldo Hill is the dude I wanna see out there. He's smart, knows the D like the back of his hand, knows the coach, and will put his body on the line to get those runners down. He's one of those guys you look at his measurements and you're like oh he's gonna have his tackles broken by the bigger runners...but he's like Zach, just hasn't happened like that.

Nick Saban has MENTIONED the left safety and right safety positions before, but he only went ahead and explained it one time. If you can find me a link showing him talking about it in detail multiple times, I'll gladly acknowledge that it may be somehow more significant in our defense than in other defenses...but in the mean time I'm going to assume that it was just Saban making the media feel silly, something he's highly prone to doing.

He has mentioned left and right multiple times, you said so yourself.

That is just silly. That is a HUGE stretch just to feel like you are right. Saban is trying to make the media feel silly, that is why he is using Left and Right safety. You would have a point there IFF he mentioned his daughter or his wife.

we are getting closer boys... speed, smarts, versitility, size... Nick will have them formidable by midseason...just in time for the post season push...
