Why arent we using him like a true 3-4 strong safety and blitz him like the Pittsburgh steelers do with polamalu, Dallas did with The old and younger Roy williams, rodney harrison and the patriots, Lawyer millow and the atlanta falcons? Yeremiah Bell has proven to us he can tackle and he is very strong, Can you please tell me why he is playing coverage more then blitz???????

If he was to blitz on that 4th down play where he was man up against andre jhonson and we had a corner on jhonson or a free saftey i garantee you, those results would be diffrent, We were suppose to win that game and that play is the big reason why we didnt, not beacuse of that matt schwab td

well... here's two thoughts :

- when you blitz in a 3-4 personnel, you need guys who can cover receivers one on one... our corners need at least one safety on top because they suck so much. On the other hand, i can't see crowder or ayodele covering a TE one on one so i'd rather make them blitz (on a sidenote, channing has been VERY effective at rushing the passer, his stats don't indicate it but he's hurried a lot of throws) ... Bell is the guy who'll cover TEs or releasing RBs, he has the speed to cover them and the strenght to tackle them.

- in nickel and dime packages, i agree that we should involve him more in some blitz packages...but the mentality of pasqualoni on those long 2nd and 3rd downs seems to have been quite conservative and simple: bring a 4-2 nickel and rush with the 4 linemen... we've seen the 3-3-5 sometimes but i've almost never saw a good play in that formation. Maybe that's why he's staying away from more complex schemes and coverages because right now the defence doesn't seem to handle it properly (on a sidenote, chris crocker was in that package and i think him being cut indicates further more the lack of success of the 3-3-5 so far...he's brought into the formation to make plays on the ball and he hasn't, so in the end you're almost playing 11 vs.10 football , let's hope jason allen will provide a little spark that's really lacking on long 2nd and 3rd downs....), if i'm Paul i'd put away the 3-3-5 or at least stay really really basic when using it, and i'd use my 4-2 nickel that provides considerable pass rush and simplicity for the coverage.... in the end, that may explain why we don't see bell blitzing on nickel packages.

I think the rest of our secondary sucks too bad to do it. Bell is all over the place back there covering everyone else's butts.

Nobody blitzes as much as Pittsburgh does and Troy is allowed to free-lance more than most because he knows Ryan Clark has his back in the middle of the field.

While Bell may not blitz as much as you may like, he does make quite a few tackles close to line of scrimmage and as a result leads the team in tackles.

One more thing, although he is not the head coach, Parcells does not like to blitz his safeties.

YB is probably our best coverage guy in the secondary, we simply can't afford to send him on a blitz.

Maybe next year that will change.

Bell is the only good thing we have on the secondary... without him back there... it would be WR's Fest all year when the other teams are playing against Fins.
