When the Dolphins were facing another big fourth-down attempt late in Sunday's 14-10 victory against the Jacksonville Jaguars, safety Yeremiah Bell began to scramble in a fit of panic as he struggled to find the player on offense he was responsible for covering.
Turns out, Bell, one of the smartest players on Miami's defense, had a pretty decent excuse: There was nobody to cover.
``There were only 10 men on the field!'' Bell said after the victory. ``I'm looking around, I'm scrambling, trying to find my guy, because I know the ball is about to be hiked. Everybody was on somebody, so I was free.''
That's when Bell decided to make the most of the Jaguars' major late-game gaffe. He used his field awareness to follow the quarterback's possible targets, jumping in front of David Garrard's pass as it floated across midfield for a big deflection.
The intended receiver, Mike Sims-Walker, had plenty of field in front of him had he made the catch, which could have led to a considerable difference in field position.
