With all the QB talk and lack of Ronnie Brown production and Jason Allen crying, something that seems to be lost is the strong play of Yeremiah Bell (IMHO) against the Pats. He was effective as a blitzer, made a nice pass defense and a great play on special teams as well. In general, I've found him to be really emerging as a solid player who's increasingly around the ball.
Futhermore, I know we're all focusing on the negatives with this team but let's try to keep things in perspective. Players like Bell, Roth, Crowder (maybe Hagan this week?) are young players starting to make plays. Jason Allen is FIVE games into his NFL career and people are dumping on him even though he isn't even being given the chance to play on D. Ronnie has little room to run and being given few carries to 'break one' and he's still making some gains and has great hands (yes fumble and that one drop excluded) coming out of the backfield. Daunte is not healthy YET and his projection is for the long term. It doesn't happen all at once people and sometimes you take a couple of steps forward and then a few back before things start to fall into place. I think Saban's ability to evaluate talent and put a team together deserves a wee bit more time in light of the mess he inherited. A 52 man roster does not change overnight, especially in the salary cap age. Let's keep it real and save our tears.
