How good is he really?? I mean yes, I personally like the guy, and once he started he had a could good games and hits.... but I remember everyone was trying to compare him to Polamalu. So I am just putting it out there....underrated? Overrated? What do you guys think?? Can he be our S for years to come???

Everyone was comparing Allen to Polamalu, not Bell, because of where they were drafted and how they were being brought along. YB has a tone of talent, but at the end of the year it seemed like he started to bite more PA fakes and got burned a little more often. That will happen to anyone when you're on the field longer than what you should be due to people dropping picks when they hit them right in the hands. He has the chance to be a top 15 safety due to his athletic ability and drive. If he learns from his late season mistakes we have one of our safety's for the next 4-5yrs.

Hes no Polamalu thats for sure. I think Bell should have had his shot a season earlier. He wasnt and so with our below par Defensive backfield he has shown to show sparks of quality with a group that hasnt exactly been solid. He is still not proven IMO. I like him but i dont think hes the long term answer.

overrated by many on this site because some have claimed he is the next Polamalu or some other unbelievably great safety.

underrated by most non-dolphin fans because he is an average to above average player who is largely unknown.

So far he is what he is-

A guy who can make a big play, and a guy who can give one up.

If he can learn to limit his mistakes, and the coaching staff can mask some of his weaknesses, then he can become one of the better safeties in the league. But until then he's still inconsistent.

Considering he only played part of the year I thought he did very well.He is a playmaker through and through...He seems to always be around the action but his only problem is his coverage abilities but I'm sure with more playing time he would improve on that as well.

I think with a new player you have to look at "how they improve as the get more playing time"and with Bell I see something special maybe not Troy P special but nevertheless I believe he will be a very good player in the NFL if given the playing time he deserves...I like him on our team and wish they could get him signed

I think Yeremiah is our starting SS for awhile. What we need is a FS...sure Renaldo Hill is fine, but id rather someone like Laron Landry or even Eric Weddle from Utah taking that spot.

here is the take on Bell...He is exactly what we think he is...A solid, very hard hitting, great blitzing safety...Is he comparable to Troy? I dont think so, not at this point, couuld he be, yes, he could very well be the next troy with a full season under his belt...We know he is a good safety for us, in that sense, he can only get better. So he is neither over, nor underreated. He is what he is with plenty of potential

I think..I thnnk he is still a little bit raw..ifw have a cold secondary coach..I think he wil lturn him in o somthing really positive.

MustangFinFan makes a good point. Bell could make a very solid SS, he showed flashes of that last year, but still needs some refinement. But your key player needs to be the FS and I think we should try and find one in either this/next year's draft. May not have to be Landry in the 1st, as there are few decent options that will be available in the first 2 (possibly 3) rounds. With Allen moving to CB, I think this makes us look at FS as a possible first day choice to give us a pretty solid D accross the board.

All i know alot of fans were calling Bells name out a couple of seasons ago and he wasnt tried. Should have been IMO. You cant beat experience and playing time. Bell is a fans favourite because he makes things happen and he can tackle. He gets more playing time and experience he learns to make less mistakes. Im sure Capers knows what hes got in Bell.

Plain and simple . . . Bell has been a playmaker for the Dolphins since his rookie season . . . whether it is on Special Teams causing a fumble or blitzing in dime coverage . . . he IMO is like a faster Sammy Knight . . . and we all know Sammy was a ballhawk (tho slow as hell). Bell was sloppy in coverage later in the season . . . but w/ the pass rush we should have this year and the familiarity on defense for these guys . . . the secondary and Bell will be even more improved. I really do wanna see Jason Allen take a starting role, its just shameful not to have that kind of athletic presence in the secondary fulltime . . . he may suprise in TC and win a job.

All very good points... So you think he might be a young T-Buck (at S of course, not CB) in that he has the big play potential at any time, but will give up lots of big plays too??

If a SS falls in our lap draft day great. Otherwise I am fine with Bell starting.

To me, its kind of hard to compare a CB w/ a safety in terms of giving up plays. He wont be as bad as Schulters or Tillman were. . . that is for sure. I don't think he is gonna give big plays . . . I mean he should be fine this season . . . everyone makes a mistake, fact is Bell was fantastic last year as our SS and a blown play late in the season shouldn't change that . . . and if there are people thinking Landry or Nelson can come in and be mistake free then they are mistaken.
