I believe that veteran from the defense will be Surtain. It would cost us to much to keep him around, plus we have Poole and Howard waiting in the wings.

Give Wannstedt a few more weeks.....if nothing changes fire him. Promote Bates or another assistant (doesn't matter who).

Then look at Eddie Jones and let him retire like he wants.

hire a new VP. Let him run the show. Decide on Speilman and hte new coach

Plus, hire someone in Marino's capacity. Someone who knows something about football needs to oversee the organization. If we could somehow end up with Weis and Pioli AND Marino (who may come back with a different front office), that would be a coup.

I release Dave, Rick, Wise, Forrester, and our special teams coach. From here, I would look at Charlie Wies and Scott Pioli. I might look at Bates or Saban. I'm not 100% sure how I would approach it, but I suggest change at all these coaching positions.

Shooting the horse in mid-stream isn't going to help anything. Wait until the off-season.

How the hell did Bates get on the list? He's the guy who keeps calling the "prevent" defenses that let other teams suddenly run up and down the field on the defense that had stopped them all day. Bates would be worse than Wannstedt.

If Wannstedt had had the stones to give Bates and Armstrong and Wise their walking papers, he might have saved 5-6 wins over the last couple of years... and his own job, at the end of this one. More than anything, Wannstedt's commitment to his underperforming friends has undermined this team's chances.
