There were 5 game changing penalties that miraculously happened at precisely the points in the game when New England needed it.

Whether it was the phantom Pass Interference call on Wilson after he made a great play on the ball - which led to a score. Or the defensive holding call on Dimitri Patterson on third down and long that gave the Patriots a crucial first down - which led to another score. Or the sack fumble that would have knocked the Cheat-triots back out of field goal range and gave them a touchdown. I've never seen a game like this before. We won that game. The Patriots are not a very good team. Our defense clamped down on Brady all day. The Patriots didn't beat us. The referees beat us. They totally turned the football game around. Extended all of the second half drives by the Patriots.

Now in addition to the bad calls, Tannehill needs to be more aware and THROW THE BALL AWAY or ESCAPE THE POCKET and RUN after Five seconds if it's not there! He's not progressing with this. The line played well today. Not just average, but well. We ran the ball effectively, opened up a lot of holes and pass protected well into the fourth quarter when Tannehill HELD ON TO THE BALL too long or failed to recognize the blitz. The one on one matchups in pass protection were very strong. I think I saw one sack that coulc be attributed to McKinney and that was because the Patriots blitzed and McKinney didn't hear the call. That's fixable.

Most of those sacks in the second half were the result of blitzes by the Patriots. That was the adjustment that the Patriots made. The refs get them back in the game and Tannehill fails to adjust to the blitz. Almost all of them (sacks) could have been avoided if Tannehill shows awareness.

And again on the awareness thing - we wasted a good four minutes at the end there. I remember seeing the clock at 6:50 in the fourth. We were driving, but we were SLOW to get to the line for the next play! Inexcusable. We operate the 2 minute drill properly and we probably score a field goal with 5 minutes left and all of our timeouts.

Tannehill's problem is not accuracy or poor decision making (picking the wrong receiver). It's awareness - pre snap and pocket and situational. He holds on to the ball too long. Doesn't see when the defense is coming blitz-wise and doesn't have that situational awareness at crucial points in the game. I CAN'T take a sack here. I will throw it away if it's not there.

Having said all of that, I think the problem is correctable. It has to be drilled into him in practice though. What are the coaches doing to fix the problem?

Definitely a down game for the refs....but hey...its the pats...what else is new.

It's always the Patriots that benefit from those calls.

While I agree the refs are always in the Pat's favor, blaming the refs is a loser mentality.

I agree the team did nothing to help themselves, but the refs do not get a pass here.

Bobby Kraft Factor

I call them PATRIOT CALLS!! It's disgusting and should be addressed! The Patriots get those calls all the time!! I'm disgusted! You won't hear about these real controversial calls on ESPN or NFL NETWORK because Bobby pays them! I knew these calls would happen because the Patriots supposedly got jobbed last week! You know Bobby Kraft paid them handsomely this week!

There's already a load of adversity playing on the road in the NFL. When the refs unbalance the game it's just too much to ask. Once the pats score to go ahead, momentum has turned and they know they can blitz. It doesn't help to leave Nincovich unblocked the entire second half.

I agree! That burnt me up inside! I was saying the same thing to my son - now we have to beat the refs too!?

Thanks for breaking it down.

That fumble play ruined the game!

They gave the patriots 14 points minimum...

Good teams find a way to win despite a bad call here and there. We're just not a good team. I wish it weren't so but that's what it really comes down to.

That wasn't a bad call here and there. 3 huge game changing calls. Get a clue all of you

Same thing happened with Baltimore..... Or was it new Orleans? Two pass interference calls in a row that took them from third and long to the goal line

I have to agree when you get Simms and Nance to say they calls we're bad you know it's bad cause they never say anything against NE

Usually yes, but not today. Those calls were phantom calls and when you are playing your heart out, those calls are deflating and momentum changing. Especially with a young team.

When I saw those calls I knew the fix was in. It's really a shame. Without the BS calls we probably would have held on to win. They we're big emotional swings and we don't have the leadership to endure that sort of thing especially on the road. Philbin has all the emotion of Data or Spock. I don't see him as a leader of men. He may have already lost the locker room.
