First of all Head coaches should be leaders no matter what. Leaders and motivators are the 2 biggest keys of a head coach.Sparano was a decent motivator, but by no means a leader. The biggest question is can Mr. McCoy be a leader and a motivator. Two things jump out at me that are positive for Mr.McCoy. He had multiple coaching postions when he was with the Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos, and he works with Qb's(which we all agree is our biggest problem) At least 90% of finheaven wanted a young coordiantor who could be the next great coach. (fisher is and was old news) The biggest thing that pops out at me is the fact that Jake Delhomme, i live in NC and watched many panthers games and god he blows, had his two best years when Mr.McCoy was qb and offensive assiatant coach. He also had exposure too the current qb of the dolphins matt moore. Kyle orton had his best year when Mr. McCoy was the OC and QB coach. coincidence maybe........ Im not saying he's going to be great, but Phin fans should show the most confidence in him and see if he can be a good leader and motivator. We already know he can adapt the offense according to the roster(aka Tim Tebow). Im rooting for Mr. McCoy to be the next great. Most importantly go Dolphins 2012!!!

I think you can learn a lot watching a guy speak in press conferences. They speak to the press a lot like they speak to their players. To me, Philbin is able to break down any issues with the media and put them in REAL terms that actually mean something. He speaks intelligently, is detail oriented, has no ego or false friends, and captures a room's attention easily because of the content and honesty of his words. He doesn't have any need for smoothing himself out or putting out false confidence, etc.

I don't get that sense from Mike McCoy. He's bland with the media, says all kinds of things that don't really mean anything, and yet he seems a very honest guy so I think he actually just thinks in those simple, dogmatic terms.

In terms of systems that the guys come from, Mike McCoy comes from and learned in Dan Henning's system and this is part of the reason John Fox kept him on in Denver. McCoy didn't even get along with Josh McDaniels.

Philbin comes from more successful offensive and team systems. That's not a BAD thing. Sometimes you see people try and paint this as a bad thing, insisting that any Philbin supporter is just guilty of wishful thinking, hoping he can bring Green Bay's success to Miami. When you've been part of winning cultures and successful systems though, that's a good thing. One problem that Belichick/Parcells cast-offs seem to OFTEN have is that their attitudes breed this unnatural ego. Once they get out from the massive egos of Parcells and Belichick, these coaches' now-unchecked egos seem to expand exponentially because they're the ones holding the whistle now. Philbin comes from a different system though, a different culture, just as successful but much less ego-driven.

I think he's the right hire for Miami, given who is left in the process.

I wanted Philbin more actually. I just don't get the Overall hate for a guy who has made pathetic QB's worth a damn. THough he came from Henning's offense im sure he knows(hopefully) that it is a pass happy and opens the offense up, like daboll did. I say if we get McCoy then him and Daboll together could be very interesting and unpredictiable

THough he came from Henning's offense im sure he knows(hopefully) that it is a pass happy and opens the offense up, like daboll did. I say if we get McCoy then him and Daboll together could be very interesting and unpredictiable

I never hated Mccoy I just found his offense less than impressive and more dependent on tebow bailing them out once in a while than any rhyme or reason. Also for all the talk of Daboll opening up thge offense his offense still ranked below Hennings the previous year and McCoy ranked even lower

Even broncos fan will tell you mccoy gets too much credit for tebows success in the nfl, when tebow was playing bad the last 3 games of the season everyone turned on him according to skip bayless, including the coaches i assume, but when tebows is playing good why is the coaches get all the credit and not tebow? coaches get too much credit, thats the issue here, tebow is the one out there playing and its his skills he is using, mccoy might help him on fundamentals and stuff but he isnt on the field helping tebow.

Thank God they didn't hire McCoy, i couldn't take hearing Skip Bayless rant how Tim Tebow's play got McCoy a head coaching job.
