It amazes me how little credit these guys get at other message boards. I typically find a forum for each team we are playing, just to shoot the ****. This week I've found you guys!
I must say, the guys from the Jets, Raiders, Broncos and Philly boards really downplayed the improvements we made in the offseason (namely Surtain and Knight). I'm thinking maybe we'll see a different opinion of those guys here, just because you know what they bring to the table. Guess we'll see.
Anyways, just thought I'd do a position by position rundown for ya, to give ya a little insight heading into this week's game. Good luck to you guys this week and from here on out.
Quarterback-
I must say he really looked a lot more comfortable in the pocket this week with Willie Roaf protecting his blind side. Still has yet to torch anyone this year, but he's making good decisions and executing the plays. We're getting a lot closer to being completely healthy on offense, and I think it's only a matter of time before this offense really starts clicking again. With all the first teamers practicing together, it's only a matter of time IMO...
Offensive Line-
Going to go here next. I really don't think these guys get as much credit as they deserve, even though they get tons of credit. The offense looked much different this week with Willie Roaf back in there. How many other lines in the league have 3 Pro Bowlers (Roaf, Waters, and Shields)? And our C, Casey Weigmann is also a former pro-bowler and one of the best pulling Centers in the game. We struggled a little bit in Roaf's absence at the tackle position, but now that Roaf is back protecting the blind side, we moved Jordan Black back to RT. His transition back to the right side even makes that position better.
Running Backs-
I think we all know what Priest and LJ are capable of, especially with Tony Richardson in the bacfield blocking for them. I'm sure you guys are hoping RW and R Brown eventually give the Fins the same type of production at the position as the Chiefs are getting out of their combo. This Ronnie Brown fantasy owner is as well :D
Wide Receiver-
Kennison has played well, even though I don't think he caught a pass yesterday. Samie Parker looked better yesterday than he has all season, but then he left late in the game with a knee injury. Not sure what his status will be next week, but I'd be more confident with Boerigter starting opposite Kennison that Parker anyways. I think Parker is more geared for a 3rd wideout.
Tight End-
Gonzo went out in patterns more this week, now that Roaf is back. Before he was being held back in pass protection. This opens the offense up even more, and I think it's only a matter of time now before he has his breakout game of the season.
Jason Dunn should be getting closer to 100%, and he really is one of the better blocking TEs in the game. He's basically another OT added to our terrific O-Line.
D-Line:
Jared Allen finally stepped up and had a big game last week. What we've been lacking from day 1 has been a pass rush. Obviously, it doesn't matter how good your coverage is if the opposing QB has all day to throw the ball. We disrupted Brunell last week, and disrupted their offense. We will need to do the same next week. Our run D is much better than it has been in the last few years. Now we really just need to get our pass D up to speed.
Linebackers-
Most improved area of the defense from a year ago. Drafted Derrick Johnson in the first round of the draft, went out and got Kendrell Bell, and Kawika Mitchell has taken over the MLB position and is becoming the leader of the defense (aside from maybe Knight).
The last few years, we lacked speed at this position, and we were constantly beat to the outside. Our LBs are now stepping up and making plays, and are really making a difference on the defensive side of the ball.
Corner-
I'm starting to believe Dick Vermeil is an idiot. That, or just damn hard headed. Dexter McCleon sucks, and was consistently torched last season and the year before. Eric Warfield (our best corner from a year ago) should have been back last week from his 4 game suspension. Instead, the team didn't activate him and went with Surtain and McCleon. McCleon left the game early with a groin injury, and I hope this gets the team to activate Warfield. IMO, we will be much better once Warfield is starting opposite Surtain. McCleon and Benny Sapp will make nice Nickel and Dime corners.
Safety-
IMO, we have a very solid trio of safeties with Knight, Greg Wesley and Jerome Woods. Brought in Knight to play SS, which moved Wesley from SS to his natural position (FS), and then moved Woods to the bench. I like our talent at this position as well.
Kicker-
Lawrence Tynes has been doing a good job.
Punter-
We drafted a punter in the 3rd this year. In training camp, Dante Hall said he had trouble fielding his punts, and Vermeil said there would be instances this season where the return guys would muff the punt because of the ay he kicks. I guess he punts it like a knuckleball, instead of a spiral. This has actually been the case this year, as both oakland and Philly botched a punt. Dustin Colquitt has done a very good job for us thus far.
Special Teams-
You always have to account for Dante Hall when he's lined up to return a kick.

I think this is going to be a great game. Looking forward to hangin out here for the remainder of the week, and if you guys are interested in checking out a Chiefs board, try chiefsplanet (wont let me post a URL )
Good Luck!
