I have a question for everybody concerning our team and the future. Like every year, I start out hoping and believing we can win it all. On the other hand, I realized that with a new coach, new roster, new scheme, new everything, that that would be very hard to do. My real hope this year was to have a team that down the stretch, didn't fade but was better than it was in the beginning. We have a chance to accomplish this because I believe we'll finish 8-8 at the very least.

Suppose we finish on a very positive note with a 9-7 record. With a good draft, signing a few key players in FA, and the return of other injured players (Poole, Mitchell, Vickerson, etc.), we may be in a good position to battle for not only the playoffs but possibly the division title or more.

Here's my question: Which one of the following options is the best way to address the QB position?

#1. Bring back Frerotte and draft a top QB who will spend one year on the bench and take over in 2007.

#2. Allow Lemon and Rosenfels to battle it out for the job and then sign a cheaper QB to hold the clipboard.

#3 Sign or trade for a veteran QB who will start. The veteran must be better than Frerotte.

#4 Draft a QB and throw him in there from the beginning of the season even though he's going to take his share of lumps.

Actually Frerotte is a cheap clip board holder. The only competition we had to sign him was well uh nobody.

If Gus finishes the year strong I choose option 1

Do you feel comfortable w/ Gus as our QB for next year especially if we have a playoff caliber team?

Sorry I guess I should answer the question.

1. option 1 would only make sense if the rookie could not catch on because Frerotte is best suited for backup.

2. option 2 is too risky and will never happen since Rosenfels will never get a chance in Miami

3.Option 3 is kind of hard since there are only 26 QB's better than Frerotte plus you still have to draft a QB unless that vet is Rivers.

4.option 4 would be my pref if the guy is sharp and its not like he will take over a horrid team ala David Carr. A first round pick will have more ability than Frerotte probably has ever had(although heath Shuler might dispute that)

So take option 4 or any option that does not have Frerotte starting. I'm not sure what mirage some folks are looking at but Frerotte is not doing that great. Hell we might as well sign Dilfer while we are at it.

My dream scenario is to pick up David Carr but since that seems unrealistic, I say lets draft a qb (Cutler or Jacobs my top choices) and let them learn from a quality vet. I'd prefer somebody other than Frerotte but he may be the best option.
BTW...It's funny how fans have high hopes for Mitchell who has never played a game especially after his injuries.

First of all, I wouldn't touch Carr. He plays on an awful team but he holds onto the ball too long. The guy hasn't done much in his 4 seasons as a Texan IMO.

Second of all, I'm not saying that Mitchell is going to be the 2nd coming of Surtain. All I'm saying is that our secondary should be a lot better w/ Daniels (in his 2nd year), Poole, Jackson (2nd year), Thomas, and Mitchell. If Mitchell is our 5th CB, we'll be alright at the CB position.

If he finishes the rest of the games like he played in San Diego then I would feel comfortable with him starting next year. He has been inconsistent this year but I think the O-line has played a big part in it.

My preference....

Sign a solid FA QB..or make a trade for one like Matt Schaub. Wouldnt mind signing Steve Mcnair...we could win a lot of games with him.

Keep Gus as a #2. He makes the great #2 QB.

If we get a young guy like Schaub or Rivers....we forget about drafting a QB until the later rounds...

If we sign someone like Mcnair....we draft Jay Cutler.

I cant beleive some of you are saying have Gus be the starter next year. He has been so inconsistant and had like 2 or 3 good games. Remember the Jets, Bills, Falcons, Cheifs, Bucs, Cleveland, and 2nd Buffalo game? He was HORRID in all those and has been under 50% completion in 6 games. Also the 28th rated starting passer in the league. NO NO NO FOR GUS in '06!!
