James, Turner and Lynch were all on my draft wishlist (though having subsequently watched a lot of CJ Fiedorowicz of Iowa, he replaced Lynch in my TE slot). SO I guess I should be excited that we picked up all three, even if James went higher than I would have taken him.
But they are all need picks, where we've got big holes that have to be filled. So, in my experience at least, it's hard to be excited about players who HAVE to work out for us.
Nevertheless, Turner excites me as a guy we could try to rebuild our run game around. Shelley Smith is a handy run blocker too - there's the glimmer of hope that we might have a Ricky/Ronnie type duo in Moreno/Miller if we can open some holes for them. As a small-schooler, Turner has a steep curve, but I'm sick of seeing tame, finesse players on the squad and welcome the competitive edge and feistiness he brings to the field.
Landry strikes me as a guy who wants it a lot more than the guy defending him. That's a terrific trait, I just hope it's enough to carry his fairly average athleticism. Mind you, I had the same concerns about Keenan Allen and he worked out OK so far, so maybe I'm being overly cautious. We certainly got him for good value, but that's not enough to get me excited yet.
Walt Aikens is kind of interesting because he's a guy we haven't seen in Miami for a long time - a big aggressive athletic DB. He's just too much of a project to be excited about yet.
Hazel stuck out when I was watching Lorenzo Taliferro of Coastal Carolina. He's a smooth athlete, with size and decent speed. He's gt a battle on his hands to make the 53, so I'm going to check any excitement until he beats the other 3,457 WRs on the roster for a berth.
Anthony Johnson excites me for the value we got. He's a DT you would expect to see much higher in an average draft class. I think we got a gem there. I believe he'll stick and he has the hands to penetrate and do some damage, with further coaching.
