I would like to know who in the NFL you think of a success story. Who do you think has entered the NFL made mistakes ie. drugs:goof: , crimes:m83: , sex abuse:cp: , whatever and then made a comeback?

Mine would have to be Ricky Williams. I know some people consider him more of a loser than a success story, but in my opinion he has made an awesome attempt at redemsion and doing what he can to "make it right" for fans, the fins, and most importantly his own life.

This guy suffers from a disorder that makes speaking in public and being in crowds very difficult. Ricky williams also found himself caught up in money, self obsorbed and addicted to drugs. I have known many people who have had issues with addictive substances whether it be cigerettes, alcohal, pot, harder drugs, gambling, or whatever. I have not seen many of them make an improvement in their lives the way Ricky has. Now I know 1 year does not make a changed person, but you have to love the attitude and the attempt being made on the part of a man with more issues and problems than a lot of us will ever see.

This is not meant to be a "poor Ricky" post.:( I would like to know what players story dolphin or not that has somewhat ispired you or made you think "well damn if they can overcome that and be the person they are, then I know I can achieve more".:D

I know some typing may be involved, and if you are feeling to lazy to reply try looking harder and get motivated by the players story that has touched you in the past.

P.S. Please don't use this thread to bash ricky or any other player.

How about a 5'9 WR who walked onto the Jets and became a solid #3 WR catching every pass over the middle, knowing he was going to get crushed.

I chose to admire admirable people..

That's exactly what I mean. Like an undersized zack thomas or whatever.

Rudy Rudy..:D

c'mon people what stories have you heard, or events hove you seen a player overcome that in some strange way added strength to your life just to witniss it?:allhail:

When was Ricky addicted to drugs? Just because someone uses drugs that doesnt mean their addicted...

when you feel you cannot function normally unless you take drugs it does mean it is an addiction

Yeah........

Sounds exactly like what an addict says!
Denial is the first sign of the problem.

When a person gives up his livelihood to devote full time to tripping it's a pretty good sign he's got a problem using.

As far as a success story, Bernie Parmalee was a pretty good one.
As I recall he had almost given up on football and was working at UPS until he got a shot.

John Kitna is another one.
He had given up on football and was a teacher.

I thought that was Fiedler who was the teacher.

I remember John coming straight from Central and becoming a Seahawk

Ricky is one of like 8,000 players that play at a high level and get stoned. A lot of professional athletes get high.

Look no further than the McGahee, Portis, Edge James interview on NFL Total Access, for example

Now that you mention it McGahee is a good success story.

when you make the series of decisions he made while on drugs, it means you have an addiction.

Ammm...ME! From about to be shipped to "Siberia" to Pro-Bowl last year, and would have been in Pro-Bowl this year if not injured. So 2 Pro-Bowl years in a row..besides being a "good-guy" I would have to say Drew (with or without my colored glasses).

How about Bernie Parmalee. Wasn't he working for UPS or something. Had a good NFL career and now is a coach for the Fighting Irish.

Bob Kuechenberg.... drafted by Phili, cut, signed by Atlanta, cut, was playing semi pro ball in Chicago when Miami called. I had the honor of attending a Kuechenberg family annual gathering in Indiana. Bob was not there, his brother Rudi...Wheezy told me this story. He said in Bob's first game he played the Colts and Bubba Smith dominated and humiliated Bob for the entire game. He said after the game Bob tells of sitting on the bench crying and made the decision right there that no matter what it took he was going to play. The rest is history. Played with a broken back, a broken fore arm, in 1978 was moved to LEFT tackle and earned a Pro Bowl berth. Holds the record for playoff games played for Miami Dolphins. He played in the shadow of Langer and Little and I think should be in the hall.

Ricky didn't quit because of marijuana. If you think that you are naive. I'd say 60% of the NFL smokes on a DAILY basis. in the NBA its 80% says charles oakley, so i'd imagine it's about the same in the NFL, probably a tad bit lower.

His reason for quitting is simple. Ricky doesn't value material items like 99.9% of the world. He didn't care about the fame, the money, or anything that came along with being a pro athlete. He has also said the NFL was too professional for him. On top of that, Wanny was literally running him into the ground. He was going to be the next earl campbell. Then the NFL suspended him, so he couldn't take his anxiety medication (marijuana). It just wasn't worth it, and it was too much for him. I highly doubt marijuana played a big role. I'm sure it disappointed him, but it wasnt the #1 reason he quit. Also, marijuana is anything but addicted. I've smoked it daily for 3 months and then quit without even thinking about it. I've never met someone that was truely addicted to marijuana.
