Ok so now that Ronnie is done, (Hes not injury prone, anyones ankle + foot would have buckled like that) Ricky has to again be the lead horse for our Dolphins. This really worries me, not in that he is not gifted enough, we all know he is. My problem is I have a strong belief the reason for his success was being out of the spotlight, and not being asked to be a feature back. I realize he got similar carries, but he was not the #1 guy, and I feel it is a mental thing with him.

He may come out of the gate tonight and play very well, I just hope it sustains throughout and our coaches keep him under 20 carries. 17-19 range. Otherwise I have a feeling he is going to wilt under the spotlight and workload. I really hope I am wrong, and the work ethic and dedication have created a different player, but I cant help but be nervous and think about a few years ago. Lex coming up big and showing he is capable of spliting carries close to even would be HUGE...not from a production standpoint, but the mental aspect Ricky is so delicate with.

I hope the coaches see what I have seen, although they werent here last time Ricky was the #1 back. Cmon Lex and atleast show you can be productive and take some of the pressure off Ricky, and Oline EARN YOUR ****ING MONEY......

SO what do you all think, is Ricky up to this challenge or not?....his interviews have scared me, they are not ESPN interviews, but locker room chats with beat writters hes been doing for 2 years willingly. Now hes reverting back when he feels the attention on him. Can he carry the load this team needs for 7 games, or will he wilt as the season goes on?

He will need help. but Ricky is explosive..I like him running the ball better than Ronnie

Are you kidding me? The guy is a stud who's been through the pressure ringer at U of Texas, New Orleans, Miami. A lot of things could happen- it's a team game- but I strongly suspect that RW will play well and it never even entered my mind that he would wilt under any kind of pressure. Ricky will be fine.

again not performance wise.....im sure he will do well tonight, but the rest of the season I see him getting really frustrated if Lex doesnt help

It's only 7 games, he knows this isn't a permanent thing. Ricky will be fine this season but if Miami doesn't re-sign Ronnie in offseason Ricky is as good as gone IMO. But someone said they need to keep him under 20 carries, well my response to that is NO They Do Not. What they need to do is whatever gives them the best chance to win games and that would be Ricky carrying the load. God knows I wish we had a great backup for him but we don't and God knows even better that I wish we had an all star cast of WR's for Henne to throw to so we could just pass more and light up the scoreboard but that's even more of a pipe dream right now,

See my opinion on the matter is yea obviously if its working to a tee run him all over, but if were going to compete next year and have him as fresh and good as hes been, he will get annoyed and angry the same he used to be while being ran into the ground. Idk I think its a thin line, and I dont want to baby him, but a part of me does just to make sure hell be here next year when we have a chance to do some things

I understand that line of thinking but you don't win games that way and like I said..... Ricky understands the situation. If he gets 25+ carries a game this season he still knows that next season(if we re-sign Ronnie) that he's only going to be getting 10.

I just hate listening to his interviews.....its like a reoccuring bad dream of yester year

Ricky will be fine.....but anyone who acts like losing Ronnie is 'no big deal' is in for a rude awakening.

I'm not worried so much about his on field performance. He still is a great RB.

I am worried about the "spotlight" thing off the field. If I were Tony/Bill, I would keep the media away from him as much as possible. Especially right after the game. I am not sure what the fines are for doing this, but let the team pay them.

Sparano and Henning like to say after each game "we need to clear the mechanism" and move on. Well, we need to keep Ricky's "mechanism" cleared so he stays focused on football. Social Anxiety Disorder can be very debilitating and putting him back in the spotlight will not be a good thing, IMO.
