This game was definitely a low point for us this year. We should have beaten Buffalo. Don't get me wrong - I've thought they were - talent-wise, at least - much better than they have played all year. Coaching has been their Achilles Heel, so after the change it didn't surprise me that they have played much better and with much more passion.

But I'm not as down as I have been in many years past. And the reason for it, I believe, is that I never really believed that this team was built to make a push for the playoffs, or at least not DEEP into the Playoffs. This offseason, we focused on the OL, getting new corners, and a couple of receivers. Check, Check and Check. But we never really made any MAJOR upgrades that I felt would put us over the top. We obviously never romanced any major Free Agents, and never seemed that we were close enough that they would make a difference, even if we had.

Our schedule didn't help. Not that it should be an excuse, because everyone in our division plays pretty much the same schedule, but our division games alone are pretty brutal. There were no gimmes this year. We played all the division champs, and they all look pretty good again this year.

All of this together really tempered my expectations for this year. I've always felt this was a three or four-year plan anyway. We have great building blocks in place for the future. Davis and Smith seem like they will be gems. Our O-Line, when healthy is a dominant unit, especially against the run. Our RB's are solid, despite Ronnie's injury, as Lex looks like he could also be a diamond in the rough. And nobody is doubting Ricky anymore. WR's still need upgrading, at least He-who-must-not-be-named. He's nothing more than a decoy at this point, and I think most teams know that anyway.

And so the re-building process continues. Defense seems to need the majority of the work - especially NT and LB. Ferguson is all but done, I believe, and although I'm not AS down on Crowder as alot of you, he certainly doesn't seem to make as many plays as he does soundbytes. Ok, he doesn't really seem to make any plays, and our entire LB corps seems to want to arm-tackle just about everyone. We need serious upgrading here. CB is solid, especially now that Nate Jones seems to be coming into his own as a third guy - he's a guy I thought to be pure junk at the start of the season. Davis has come along the most, I feel, even though Smith started the year as the eye-opener.

All in all, I've felt from the start that this season was about getting those young guys experience. Once Pennington went down, that's mostly what this season became. Henne will get his 1st season under his belt, along with the other young guys. They'll learn how to play, and how to win. NEXT year is when this team will take their 1st step toward being a dominant force. Next year we will be a team like the Colts, Pats, or Steelers. We will have our time. But have some patience. We still have a very young team, and have a HC still learning HOW to be a HC. Let them make their mistakes now, get it outta the way.

Next year we make a difference.

I agree with most of what you said but after Henne gets some more experience
this team will be better. I think our year to seriously contend is 2011. You wait and see.

Hoped we'd at least repeat as AFCE Champs. Wasn't expecting a below .500 finish. Really hate to see the Pats take the East again.

I had us at 7 - 9 and 8 - 8 at best. Anyone who was expecting another AFC East crown was sippin' on that Kool-Aid again. I knew that eventually this season we'd have to begin handing the reigns over to Henne. We were very fortunate last season to have very few injuries. The injury total last season was just crazy. This is the NFL and injuries happen. I knew the injury total would be much higher than last season. The Patriots got Tom Brady back and we had no Wildcat surprise to spring on them this season so beating them was going to be a real task.

I'm sorry if some of you "expect" playoff runs and Super Bowls every season but right now with our talent level it's just not going to happen. You have to look at what we have on the field of play and evaluate it without your emotions involved. I know that sometimes this is difficult to do but that's the reality of it all. I still believe that despite the decline in the win column that our team this season is significantly better than last season's team. The record is not indicitive of how good this team is and how well we have plated as a unit. We are absolutely headed in the right direction.

My #1 expectation was that we improve as a team, play solid fundamental football and have superior coaching with Parcells as CEO.

Guess what............................

I was a bad fan when I proposed it then. I said about 8-8 to 9-7 and missing the playoffs, because I did not think the WC would come out of the AFC East.

During the off season, BP had privately said, "We might be better but not show it in the win column"... all in all, as we now know; the defense has been a real problem all season long... the rookies and 2nd year players are making plays and gaining experience... the team has found some real gems in Polite and Garner ... Miami is one of the youngest tams in the league... and i think this front office prefers it this way... they will grow together and learn how to win together... as much as this loss against Buffalo hurt today... it was STILL a learning experience for all the players involved... i was figuring on a 7-9 to an 8-8 season at best... even if Miami somehow doesn't win another game this season ... the future IMO still looks bright... I know the Regime knows where it can make the most improvements and am confident that BP and Company will address the #1 WR and LB positions this off season, depending what player is available when the team picks in the draft .... it wouldn't surprise me if this is the year BP FINALLY drafts a WR in round #1 and goes DEFENSE the rest of the draft... i am hoping for the best...

At the start of the year I was also thinking 8-8 or possibly 9-7 if we got some breaks. No doubt that the loss today was a big blow for this season and it can be hard to step back from the emotion of a single game to analyze where we are as a whole, but I think if you look at it objectively, we are moving in the right direction.

By the end of the year I think we're going to be a middle of the pack team that will probably end up being a game or two out of a wildcard spot, not unlike many other respectable teams in the NFL. The difference between 8-8 and 10-6 is very slim and I'm confident that this team will learn from games like today, Indy and New Orleans as they keep progressing forward.

We have some guys who are getting valuable experience this year (that includes Sparano) and if we can address some of our needs in the offseason, next year should be a year where we can realistically set the playoffs as being an attainable goal. I like our odds of keeping it moving ahead given our core of young players and the way they have responded this year, even if it hasn't translated into wins just yet.

I expected 8-8 and that we would be competitive for most part of the season.

A earlier thread asked basically the same thing.

Just people needed to temper expectations from Game 1. I thought MIA coming into this year would be a better team, but not a team with a better record.

MIA still has stop gap players through out its roster that still need to be addressed. NT, ILB/OLB and S are needed in a sore way. Offense...WR and TE. All those needs were known to some here before the season started. People thought Gerbil was the answer, even though it was said early on that he and Bell were identical in skill set and position. Chowder what can be said of him? I have been one of his hugest critics this year. He runs around with his head chopped off and then laughs and jokes around like **** is funny.

Throw in WR and TE. Fasano disappeared in stretches at a time last year. He was decent, but he isn't the answer. And WR....when Camarillo can come back from a ACL and be at one point the most consistent, the team is in trouble.

I can say I have been very happy w/ the progression of the OLINE and Henne. As for DEF, very happy with the progression of MIA's DE's and Davis at CB. I was initially upset with his pick, but his physicality and eventually his mental game will make for a excellent CB for years to come.

I was hoping for improvement, but what I see is the opposite.

My Real Expectations

Cold Cold rest of the season... After getting trampled by Buffalo; Outcoached by an interim HC; outplayed by a team with no OL; making a veteran back-up QB look like a HOF'er, IMO we win one more game and finish the season with the 3rd losing record in 4 years

Patriots (L) - 5-7
Jaguars (W) - 6-7
Titans (L) - 6-8
Texans (L) - 6-9
Steelers (L) - 6-10

Well now you have to figure 2 and 3 the rest of the way, but I wouldn`t be surprised if we put together a couple of great games.

The most important thing now is to allow the young guys to develop and not put Henne in bad situations.

Does that include White and his snap count? IMO, Henne needs to be out there taking snaps as much as possible. Taking snaps so a hybrid can come in and run a option or hand off isn't what Henne needs at this point.

Lol. Sorry, musta missed that thread. Looks like you and I see about eye to eye on this. I know everyone comes on here upset after a loss, but I just hate to see everyone keep talking about "fire this guy" and "cut that guy." As fans, you want to see your team be the best every year, but realism tells us that it isn't possible. The young guys have to learn to play the pro game first, then they learn how to become all-pros. It's a bunch of steps that, if taken in the right order, will lead them to the promised land.

It'll come. I just wish everyone would show a little patience. You can't fire your whole staff every two years and expect the team to build continuity.
