You've got to read this(49ers drafting policy)

That could be a factor....

Stress level, mindset, etc....they say your state of mind varies...even from day to day depending on what you've experienced....

They basically only ask you about 100 or so different questions...but they word them all differently...asking you the same question 5 different ways...

There really aren't any right or wrong answers because the questions are so rediculous...what they're checking for is consistency....to see if you're changing your answer etc....

It's weird....if you're not crazy when you sit down to take it you will be by the time you're through with it...

Whatever "it" is that makes a player great i don't think Stafford has "it" but with that said it go's without saying Singletary doesn't seem to have "it" ether as a coach.I loved him as a player but this is just BS.

For Singletary to come out and say something about it to the public is 100% wrong.

I can understand them asking him about it, but they should have some respect and class and not go public with being upset that he didn't want to talk about it.

They are just trying to find out if the young guys are good people or not and if you can't do that without striking a nerve and talking about things that are none of your business, then.... trying to toss them under a bus by talking down about them in the public, just because they didn't want to talk about it shows no class at all.

Singletary's days are numbered in San Fan.

Screw that. Singletary is way out of line. Even more so by talking about it in public. WAY the eff out of line.

The 49ers psychologist didn't ask him that question with the intention of helping him get through any issues that might be associated with it, or with any kind of benevolent intentions whatsoever. Therefore, it was none of their goddamned business.

And if they're going to make a drafting decision based on something like that, that is THEIR idiocy. Ultimately, remember...when a team decides to pass on a player that ends up being really good, it is primarily THEIR loss. They're going to pay for it more than the player will, if the player ends up a good player. They'll pay for it because at the end of the day if the 49ers are trying to get by with Alex Smith at Quarterback and the owner comes to talk to the GM and HC about why they've had losing seasons for the last three seasons or so, with no answer to the QB question in sight...tell me why again did you pass on Matt Stafford, seeing as he's going to the Pro Bowl this year? And if their answer is, we asked him about a messy and painful childhood divorce and he didn't want to talk about it...well, I'd have them escorted off the premises right then and there, if I were the owner.

Besides, they pick #10. They won't have the option of passing on Matt Stafford.

first of all, it wasn't Singletary that asked the question, it was the psychologist. and yes, every year teams try to put players in pressure situations to see how they react. did it go over a line? maybe, but again Stafford should be prepared for anything.
Aaron Curry talked about how players were berated by a Saints' coach like a drill sargent at the combine. he didn't complain, he laughed about it. was the coach rude and over the line? maybe, but at least Curry recognized what was happening.
the fact is, any first round pick is very expensive and if a team misses, it hurts in more ways than money. they need to aquire as much info as they can in a very short period of time. QB's need to be able to remain cool under pressure more than other positions and if the 49ers uncovered a flaw, good for them.

At the end of the day it's just a job "The NFL" people like to make it into something more then that but it's not.

If Ricky could go and do something that would pay him around the same money he'd do it.And so would a'lot of other guys.

A'lot of the players that are good, play for a few years to long and end up walking with a cane or a huge limp the rest of their lives. Most people would want to play with their Grandkids then make a'lot of money.

Seriously? Anyone condoning this is in the wrong, in my opinion.

We don't know how the divorce was on him when he was a kid. People have moments they don't like reliving. And for a coach to make a public announcement on that is completely wrong.

If someone had lost one of their parents or both to say, accident, murder, drugs, etc...would you want that brought up when you're going into a place to play football?

From what I understand, the divorce was fairly recent (like within the last five or six years, but I could be wrong) and the kid just turned 21. If that's the case and the wound is still somewhat fresh it's completely understandable that he may react this way. It took me years to completely get over my parents' divorce and it happened when I was six. Sometimes it can actually be even more traumatic if it happens when you are older because you can fully grasp what's going on. When I was six I didn't really understand what was happening, just that my parents were arguing all of the time. I imagine it would be much worse if I did understand what was happening.

It was wrong to discuss it in public, but it wasn't wrong to ask Stafford about the divorce. We have all seen what depression has done to some players in the league. Vince Young, Kerry Collins, Brian Griese....just to name a few. It's certainly worth checking into to see if there is a deeper problem. The 49ers were right in what they did.

it was Stafford who brought it out first to Sports Illustrated right after the combine. Singletary was interviewed on a radio station a couple weeks later and was asked about it. so if you want to blame anyone for making it public, blame Stafford.

also, the comments that Stafford made seem fairly tame to me. if you just read the quote, he made a joke about it. we don't know what was said in the actual interview with the psychologist, but again, the 49ers didn't seem to like his answers.

I didn't say it was necessarily "wrong" to ask the question. Just that it was none of their business. That means that if Stafford wants to discuss it, great. If not, no matter.

But obviously the 49ers feel differently. Because he wouldn't discuss it, they took him off their board. THAT is what is wrong. I doubt Stafford flipped out on them or anything, he probably just said I don't want to discuss it. That is his right. But, it is also the 49ers right to take him off their draft board for it.

HOWEVER, whether it's their right to do so or not, they will one day be forced to answer for that decision, especially since Singletary went public with it. Because the bottom line is if Stafford becomes a Pro Bowl QB or has a lot of success, they will look like idiots for making a big deal out of something so utterly stupid and so utterly NOT their business. This is where Singletary shows a lack of foresight and restraint. He just opened himself up for future criticism regardless of where Stafford gets drafted. He also just fed motivation to a guy that they could potentially have to play in the future. Singletary just openly suggested that Stafford "does not belong here" because he refused to talk to a psychologist (that is not his own psychoogist) about a private matter with his parents' divorce. If I'm Stafford and I hear Singletary saying I don't "belong here" because of that, I've got a little extra motivation to play better whenever I face the 49ers.

I think Singletary has a point, I mean if the niners had done thier due diligence in hiring a coach they would not have this clown as thier coach.

Stafford is in the catbird seat, he will be fine and teams are really graspin fr straws with this kind of stuff.

and if he turns out to be just another guy with all the physical tools but is easily rattled into poor decisions, they will look very smart.

Im not too sure how effective an interview would be to tell a team anything as far as ability to handle pressure. Every year the military profiles people and people still react diferant when the bullets fly.

Singletary...Hall of Fame player.....stupid coach. But a lot of great players couldn't coach so Mike won't be the first.

it's not easy to predict by any stretch. to me, standing up to someone who talks about your family isn't necessarily a bad thing. obviously the 49ers saw something that spooked them.

I remember last year when Singletary called out his Tight End Vernon Davis and then he had to go in front of all the reporters to air out his differences with Davis for everyone to hear. To me you don't call out guys like this. If Singletary has issues with Stafford he needs to keep his mouth shut and handle things in a professional way.
