Zach Thomas
Salary History

2005 $3,500,000
2006 $4,950,000
2007 $5,650,000
2008 $5,650,000

That is what Zach Thomas's salary will look over the next first years. There is no doubt in my mind that if he's going to remain a Dolphin that he WILL have to restructure his contract. I'm not quite sure, but I am thinking it would be best if he restructured next year because he is do to make just under 5 million. How he performs this year in Saban's new defensive scheme will definitely determine his future here and I hope he has a long and bright one. I really would love more than anything for Zach Thomas to excell in this new defense and finish his career a Miami Dolphins. One problem though is that he'll have to restructure 2006... and I would love for Sam Madison excell in Saban's defense and to finish his career a Dolphin as well and he will have to restructure around 2007 I believe. And Jason Taylor salary is eventually going to be a major concern in a couple of years and I feel he is the most versatile and most valueable player on our defense and I feel he may very well end up excelling the most in Saban's defense more than anyone and what I want more than anything is for Jason, Zach, and Sam to be able to finish their careers in Miami and for it to be financially possible. These 3 guys really are the true veteran leaders of our Defense (Of course JR is as well but there three have been not only the defensive leaders, but TEAM LEADERS for us for many years). I personally do feel that if Zach Thomas has a successful season this year, he will infact be staying with us if we restructures his contract in 2006 or 2007 and he will finish his carer a Miami Dolphin. I was a lot more skeptical a few months ago fearing that we will lose him next year due to salary, but I am a lot more confident and hopeful that he will be staying here in Miami.

What is it that makes people think that Zach is not what Saban is looking for in a LB???? Where are you getting that from exactly???

Saban is like BB. They try go get the following from every player at every position - athleticism, size (relative to position), speed, heart, brains, and value. Zach has athleticism, heart, speed and brains, but he is no value, and he is certainly undersized. While being undersized hasn't hurt him to this point, it likely will in the next year or two as he ages (loses speed), and is forced to take on more blockers than in the past when Bowens-Gardner-Chester paved the way for him.

That's why he's not what Saban is looking for in a LB. It's not that Saban doesn't appreciate the guy's effort and past contributions to the team - but going forward, his value to the team is diminished. That's how guys like Saban and BB think. While it's cold sometimes - it's what makes them so successful!

I tend to think yes, but Saban has a duty to win and If Zach can no longer play at a high level, the axe may come........later rather than sooner. But I have some good news..............(and its not saving money on some cheesy Auto insurance) Zach is still a beast and has not shown any signs of not producing at a high level.

How does anyone know what Saban is like when it comes to managing a team and how much peoiple are paid and stuff.

You have little clue what Saban thinks. It is also not like Belecheck just flat out cuts the guy. He most of the time tries to get them to take a pay cut or restructure first.

yes he will stay. he will fix his contract and in a couple years after he retires, it will be cool if hes a linebacker coach.

Look. I absolutley love Zach and hope he plays 20 years with the Dolphins, wins six Super Bowls, and accompanies Taylor, Madison, and R. Williams in the Hall of fame someday. But I'm being realistic here based on the current economies of the game.

The question asked whether we thought Zach would retire as a Dolphin. I'm just providing my best guess based on what I know of Saban, and past histories of people who hold Saban in high esteem (i.e. BB). I'm sure Zach would be asked to take a pay cut first - but when, and how much of a pay cut are yet to be determined. I just think the odds of him finishing up as a fin are long. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't really think so.

Yes or No, Does Zack get to finish his career as a Dolphin?
Please give reasons why or why not.

yeah, he plays around 3-4 more seasons and shocks everyone in how much he still has left

Are you kidding? Zach Thomas could be in a wheel chair and wear dentures and still run over QB's.
