If I was a betting man (which I am), I would pound the over. But I never mix business with pleasure.

What do you all think?

Go Dolphins!

Bodog predicts the Dolphins will win 8.5 games this upcoming season. If I bet over 8.5 and the Dolphins win 9 games (or More) I would win the bet. If the Dolphins would win 8 games (or Less) this upcoming season I would lose the bet since 8.5 is greater than 8.

Simply, I bet over 8.5...

I win if....

The Dolphins win 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, or 16 games.

I lose if....

The Dolphins win 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, or 8 games.

Since Bodog used .5 (in 8.5 games) there is no chance for a tie.

i think a 8-7-1 record counts as 8.5 wins. i could be wrong though

If the Fins win more than 8.5 games, you win. If the go .500 or less, you lose. Vegas will set the over/under then also set vig or juice. This is an extra % which the player will pay to the house (casino) if they lose. Most bets will be anywhere from 5% to 20%. If betters put mucho dinero on one side, the juice will go up to gets bettors to put money on the other side. If too much money comes in on one side, the line, Miami being favored by a field goal for example, will be pushed to 3.5. In the case of team win totals for a season, it is realy tough to change the Fins win total down to 8 or up to 9 becuase this could drastically change many bettors decisions and the casino could get screwed so they will continue to push the juice to obserd levels. Right now the Fins are 8.5 (-120) or 20% juice at sportsbook.com. San Fran on the other hand is 8.5 (-160) or 60% juice. Everyone and their mother is betting San Frans to have 9 or more wins becuase their division blows and their schedule is pretty weak.

Anyway, I got the Fins over 8.5 (-110) as soon as it came out at my book. The way I figure, we started off 0-3 last season, right? We lost our QB, started a 2nd year "rookie", lost our starting RB for the season. Our most productive formation was scrapped (Wildcat) due to Brown's injury. We were breaking in 2 rookie corners, got zero production out of our veterans DEs and LBs. We also threw in the towel in week 17 - was it to see how White do in a real game? Was it to get better draft position? And most importantly, we had both Super Bowl teams on the ropes until the final 2 minutes of the game. It gonna be a dog fight with the Jets and Pats, plus GB, Viikes, Ravens...but if we can keep our heads above water through the first half of the season, our schedule is a joke in November and December. Worst case we only win 9, best case we win 11.

That would really suck if that happened. I was praying the casinos would post the fins at 8 wins to protect me from a scenario like this. oh well. but think about it, how often is there a tie in the NFL-once every 2-3 years maybe. And you just so happen to bet on that team and it screws you!! That would suck!

It is always bad news to bet on teams you like. I learned that lesson a long time ago.

I agree if you bet on a weekly basis because you never want to face reality when your team goes on a really bad skid. Every week you tell yourself, they'll bounce back and down the toilet goes you cash.

i think the nfl does count a tie as .5 wins in order to determine win percentage. i'm not sure how Vegas handles it though

Right...In the NFL you can tie...But Vegas doesnt give a sheet. Its purely based on the number of wins...
