After reading up on the matter, here’s the rules: Its not about age, a player does have to be eligible for an NFL draft (or supplemental draft) and go undrafted before they can sign with any team they wish as a free agent. If they end up getting drafted by a team and refuse to sign a contract, they are re-entered in the draft the following season.

Regardless of the players age, the NFL would have a MASSIVE problem with players manipulating where they land if going through an NFL draft wasn’t mandatory.

Now that makes sense.

If you read through the thread, you can see that is not really an option unless he ends up being an UDFA. We would have to draft him at that point and give him a 3 year contract.

Still not a huge risk, I guess.

Weird that he is going through the draft given he has professional experience.

I don't think he would make more money as a FA. Minimum salary would be the same either eay due to 0 years of NFL experience

If he was attractive enough to generate some competition for signing he could get more than a late round rookie.

Too bad the NFL rules are screwing him over but it would be a loophole for the Draft if guys could go to Canada(or whichever Spring League is still standing)and then bypass the Draft.
