Congrats Charles Harris

Not taking anything away from those stats, because they are concerning, but let us not forget Players like JT, LT, Wake did not actually come out of the gates looking like superstars.

Yep, that was the one where he showed good closing speed. He had a nice bull rush that appeared to hurry and disrupt a Pass also...

Rivers is rolling away from his side too and setting up on the opposite hash

He had some poor moments (the draw where Kiko also got blown up) but he did have some plays where he pushed the tackle back a bit.

Charles Harris on that play was responsible for both himself and Kiko getting taken out of the play. He rushed up field and let the offensive lineman get to the second level.

Alonso's mistake was playing the run inside-out and not being outside in a force run scheme. He still must play accordingly. We had players flowing towards the ball and Alonso didn't play his contain assignment.

Regardless of that, Harris basically ran right past the offensive lineman, who then could seek out Kiko immediately after. We effectively had two defenders blocked by one lineman.

It's not regardless of that though, Force - funneling runners back inside - is our run philosophy and a requirement of defenders.

Harris certainly blew his end and it's odd to imagine he thought that any pass block would be that easy to beat outside, but everyone else still has a responsibility.

So it's Alonso's fault that he went from probably having a free shot at the running back to then having to fight through a 300 pound man to make that tackle?

It was dominos. Harris didn't take care of his assignment and it created a massive hole with a lead blocker. I honestly shouldn't say assignment because I technically don't know what his assignment was, but he ****ed the entire left side of the field by putting himself out of the play. We might as well have had 10 guys out there.

And another thought, I was excited about the Harris pick but he's been bad so far. At least try to hold strong at your position instead of running up the damn field like it's a pass every time.

It wasn't Alonso's responsibility on that play to make the tackle, rather it was his responsibility to get outside the blocker to force Gordon back inside and funnel him the defensive help that was flowing to the ball, regardless of Harris' error. When Alonso played it from the inside he gave Gordon the sideline and an open field where there wasn't any help to be had.

You also have to realize that is the result of our attacking scheme. Upfield penetration is the primary responsibility of our DL.

Here's just an example of that even though it wasn't typical of our run defense Sunday vs the Chargers: http://finheaven.com/threads/our-d.342784/page-6#post-7454988

So on that play you referenced, it was Hull's responsibility to be about 2 yards off the LOS right on the outside of the hash?
