Not as bad of a list

Significantly more than 30% of those CB's were not busts. Your making the RB picks look bad, and the CB picks look good. Same with the QB position.

Just thought I'd find some other first round positions for comparisons. The OP choose 2008, so I went with it.

I was surprised at the % of CB's that were still starting. Some of them may be marginal starters, but they are still full time players. About 4 of them changed positions. But not a lot of complete busts really. Still at the end of the day no matter what position we go with if we get a great player who cares what the hit rate for the position is.

Incorrect. RB has the largest 1st round bust rate of any position

I agree that this may be true, but how do we define "bust"? I also believe RB is one of the few positions that you can get good value later on.

Who exactly are the 10+ players that are quality players and not just fringe starters????

From two or three posts down I say, "I was surprised at the % of CB's that were still starting. Some of them may be marginal starters, but they are still full time players. About 4 of them changed positions. But not a lot of complete busts really. Still at the end of the day no matter what position we go with if we get a great player who cares what the hit rate for the position is.", so yeah, I get that some of the CB's aren't elite. But the success rate at CB is FAR better than the success rate at RB. I mean it's not really close.

Not to mention the sheer amount of them drafted. That tells you a few things:

A- more players drafted = more will be busts
B- teams value the passing game and trying to defend it now, thus more teams are taking cb's early
C- far more guys in college coming out, per draft, at corner than runningback probably

You can play that game with any position.

can you? no position has been devalued more than RB's and THIS is the reason, i DO believe in getting Elliot but the stats are damning

absolutely agree with all of your points

If you go back to 2007, you will gain 2 additional studs in Adrian Peterson and Marshawn Lynch to add to the list.

If you take the 5 in which you declare as 'non-busts' out of the 17 names provided, you still have a hit percentage of almost 30%. Not entirely awful.

Add Adrian and Marshawn to the list and you are around 37% hit.

It is interesting that this was brought up, however, because believe it or not the top 4 rushers for total yards in 2015, were all 1st rounders. And if you look at the top 10 leading rushers in 2015, 6 of them were first rounders.

Yes i saw that, and reggie bush and a slew of other busts prior to those years. I decided to go from 2008 on as it seemed to my quick eye to be about the same ratio of "bust" to "non bust" and yes thats a subjective term.

I also would say just from glancing at the other lists that none seem to have thebust rate of RB lately.
