We've all been pining for Wanny to be gone for quite a while now (at least I have), so let's say we have a winning record and either miss the playoffs again or get ousted in the wildcard round....would that truly be the last straw for Wanny? I would think so (then again, I thought he was gone after last year), I mean Wayne has to see what's been going on right? Like it or not, right now we are one of the laughingstocks of the NFL and people locally as well as nationally are talking about it, so you know he can't be that oblivious, and if there is one thing about Wayne, he does not like being embarrassed. I think Wanny is taking the full weight of the season on his back with his decsions (firing Ford, hiring Forrester, etc.), and I can't imagine he would last another year if we fail to do something. For me, that something is he has to get farther than he ever has (AFC title game) and a division crown. Might be a little lofty, but we have the talent to do it so I really don't see any excuses he has left after the overhaul of the o-line. So I do think this is his make-or break season.

I agree that this is a make or break season for pornstache, but I don't know that he has been given enough tools (upgrades) from last year to get it done. Outside of the O-line shuffling, the biggest change (as you mentioned) is the coaching staff around the team. There is a lot that needs to gel before our team will perform to it's talent level, from the new coaching staff to the new players through to the vets. Good or bad, I can't wait for the season to start!!! I only hope that the changes that have been made prove to be the beginning of our team climbing up the elite ladder of teams.

My best guess is that no playoffs means DW moves on. An early playoff exit is a grey area, and the AFC Championship game gets him year 6 guaranteed.

IMO, Wannstedt has to make the AFC game as a minimum. He's already done "everything" less and the AFC gm would be an improvement. but if we did go far, I don't think he should deserve another extention cuz even if we pulled off a miriacle and won the SB, it would be in spite of him, not becase of him. that feat would have to be duplicated before i chnage my opinion that he actually had alot to do with it. Until then, he has proven absolutely nothing to me.

I would imagine that it would depend upon who was available to replace him.

I know what my guess is.......GRAY AREA..... and we`ll get to do this all over again next year.

I would suggest Daffy Duck could do a better job,but Warner has him hamstringed on a contract.LOL! :roflmao:

Precisely. DW could go 8-8 and if there's nobody out there good enough to replace him, DW will still be our coach. Or we could go 11-5, lose in the first or second round of the playoffs, and someone comes available, and bam Dave is gone. If, say, Nick Saban renegs on his vows and decides to go back to the Pros, I could see that happening. There's that other college head coach everyone loves too, the guy from Oklahoma. If the Patriots do really well again, Romeo Crennel and Charlie Weis might all the sudden look like excellent candidates rather than just the "good" ones they would have been had they been allowed to interview while prepping for the super bowl.

Keep an eye on Pete Carroll too...his tenure in NE wasn't that great but neither was Bill Belichick's tenure in Cleveland. If USC is really good again next year, people might think his college time has taught him what it takes to be the head guy in the pros.

I sure hope Carroll never sets foot here. Still will never forget him giving Stoyanovich the choke sign when he was coaching the Jets.

Ok go wash your mouth out with soup right now! :roflmao:

Some are just better college coaches than pro. But I agree if he continues to win at USC someone in the NFL will take a hard look at hiring him.

WoW, so now if we win the SB with JF and DW its inspite of them and not because of them?

IMHO, how about its because they play as a team for once in the Post Season... :)

I don't see Carroll leaving USC. He's very happy there and these days top-tier college coaches make almost as much as NFL coaches. He'd have to get offered something like $4mill+ per year to leave USC, and I don't see that happening.
Someone that might be available next year is Bill Cowher. I don't see the Steelers having a good year in 2004 and his tenure there might be over.
