Jakeem Grant - good we moved on - fumbled AGAIN - cost Bears the game

Grant was good for a few big plays a year. But was it good enough to keep him on the roster; inspite of his penchant for fumbling returns? I loved Grant, but it was time to move on. If I remember correctly he's fumbled with Chicago as well. His lack of reliable hands made him non existent in Miami's passing game. I'm happy he's making his plays in Chicago, good luck Jakeem.

Nothing against the guy, he was just always a liability in big situations with drops and I held my breath every time he fielded a punt. I wish him the best, but glad we moved on!

Why did they trade him for a 6th rounder?

Seriously I’m not trying to be right….

When I watched the 1 and 7 team keep a receiver/return man who consistently dropped passes and fumble kicks I said this kid represents a coaching staff that does NOT know they are doing….

The losing was NOT all his fault but he was a contributing part..including bobbles on catchable balls that hit him in stride on his way to likely a Jerry Rice like touchdown…plays like that lose games for teams…Waddle dropped one like that last week…it often ruins teams - and if we are one game out of the playoffs his drops and bobbles and fumbles curse us even after he’s gone….

Sorry this is the NFL…
I’m not trying to say that we made a catastrophic mistake or anything like that. I’m just saying that he gave us a spark no one on this team not named waddle can right now. It would have been nice to keep him around. He’s always played hard. Which is probably why he’s put the ball on the ground. I mean there definitely were a few negative plays. But he did more with less most of the time. I like him. It’s fun to watch him. Plus he bailed us out of poor field position more than people realize. 10 yards can be extremely valuable sometimes.

Just remember, fumbling punt returns deep is just as damaging to your team as a return TD is helpful. Both frequently end in 7 points.

Is there a video of all of Jakeem's drops and/or fumbles of 2020? There's a few in there that'll make you cringe.

Lets not pretend Hollins and Waddle haven't also dropped a few punts too. If you watch other games around the league you see Tyrek Hill and other returned mishandling returns too from time to time, it's not just a Jakeem Grant issue. I agree that is was past time to move on, probabbly would have been in the best interest of all parties if Grant left last season.

By the way I notice Miami signed Tommylee Lewis to the ps this week, he's a lot like a cheaper version of Grant. Doesn't have the tds on returns that Grant does, but has similar speed, quickness and size.

Yeah, Tyreek Hill fumbles a return from time to time. He also has value far beyond returning the ball.

Jakeem Grant fumbles returns. And he is a negative presence on offense. He doesn't do other dirty work on special teams. He's a return specialist that fumbles as many returns as he makes nice ones in an era where return specialists don't even get kickoffs anymore since the league has legislated that out of the game due to injury risk.

It's funny, the announcer in the game was like "when he's in on offense you know he's getting the ball"...took him just a little broadcast prep to realize what all our opponents for the last 4 years did. Ideally you would have loved to dial up his speed for special plays and things, and we tried, but the play was pretty much telegraphed before it happened. With the lines we've had running a play with action behind the LOS that the defense is expecting gave us as many drive killing losses as the 4/5 carries that Kenyan Drake got that didn't go for 20 yards. Grant was/is having a bit more success in Chicago because, either because the opponents aren't used to seeing Grant, or just not sure how the Bears would use him, they haven't fully caught on to the telegraphed usage....yet.
