Jimmy Johnson on F/A

Not really because they weren't drafted by the Dolphins. Grier had to trade for them.

Miami gave up valuable picks for them they would have used as draft picks and probably found quality players.

Miami did not have a 1st round pick last year, yet they came out of it with arguably the most dangerous RB in the Draft, and maybe now in the whole NfL.

Grier also got Cam Smith in last draft, who I am still not convinced will be anything less then a starting level quality Corner.

Cam Smith has been a bust so far until proven otherwise. We will find out this year if the issue was Fangio refusing to play him or Smith himself not being that good.

In 2020 the team needed offensive talent. We had the ability to draft Justin Jefferson, Tee Higgins or Jonathan Taylor AND still draft Austin Jackson in the 1st. Instead we took a developmental CB who was a 2nd-3rd round guy on most boards (and was a straight bust).

In 2021 we traded down to 12 in a great move. We gave up a ton to move back to 6. We could have had Jamar Chase at 3 or Micah Parsons or DeVonta Smith at 12.

These 2 drafts set us up to need to trade for Hill and Chubb. They also set us up to need to sign Armstead. That is a ton of draft capital and money spent on guys we could have found cheaper options for elsewhere. We squandered a ton of premium draft picks we had over the last 4 years and came out with 4-5 above average guys we personally drafted.

You could argue the 3 best players we got with all our picks (outside of a franchise QB) were Hill, Ramsey and Chubb. We had to pay lucrative contracts as soon as we gave up the picks. Most of our financial woes come from these trades and a few poor FA signings.
This is the Aaron Rodgers argument that raged for decades. The problem you have in the draft is, you simply don't know what you don't know.

People loved the Waddle over Smith pick, too small, gonna get busted! They screamed, Waddle is better.

Parsons was projected to go top 20, but not top 10.

Eich was taken in the 2nd and there was a consensus "wow great value for that dude, he should have been a 1st round pick"

Hindsight makes the draft pundits go round.

No, actually a bust goes out there and fails after being given a shot, Smith got only a few chances to play, and he actually did nothing to be called a bust...At worst, his evaluation is incomplete.

On the other hand seeing how Cam's teammates were excited for him when Fangio left, it tells me that at the very least he did not embarrass himself in practice, and they felt he should have been given a shot after injuries.

Also fans and beatwriters watched him in practice during camp and preseason, and were impressed, going so far at times in saying he might be a starter already. Don't know about you, but I watched the preseason games, and watched for him, and after watching him, became excited to see him in regular games.

We will see this year how he looks.

That ship has sailed. Needed to extend these guys under reasonable prices before they hit FA.
Fans often say that but that's not usually a realistic option. Players and their agents recognize that their value will probably go up. They won't just accept lower contracts a year earlier.

Well it's about sharing the risk and finding the middle ground. You think Conor Williams doesn't wish he took the deal the Dolphins offered prior to his injury?

Those players were drafted 4-5 years ago.

As of late, being the past two years, there is Achane and no one else who has made much of a positive impact.
Yeah but we traded almost all of our picks. It’s amazing that we found Achane in the 3rd
