Ill admit I was one who was against the idea of drafting Matt Ryan. But the more I think about all the successful quarterbacks in the NFL, they all have at least one thing in common, its that rare leadership ability and poise in the pocket.

I havent gave up on John Beck being our Quarterback of the future. But Parcells and company may differently. Parcells is making this team the way HE wants it, McCown was brought in mainly as a backup, so dont be surprised if we take a quarterback on the 1st day, maybe with the 1st pick.

Parcells is totally re-building this franchise, and he can start by putting a face on this franchise with a quarterback like Matt Ryan. For all the nay sayers who dont beleive that Ryan is a franchise quarterback, let me ask you this question; Can you name any other players who played for Boston College last season?

Matt Ryan lead that program. He did it with his toughness and his great leadership ability. Matt Ryan has top notch intangibles, which is what you look for in a franchise quarterback. He simply has the moxie to succeed in the NFL.

The best athletes have a rare combination of qualities-skill, poise and the kind of moxie that says, "When the game's on the line, Ill make the play to win it." NFL teams pay scouts to find players who have this gift, particulary when teams are evaluating the most important postion on the field. There's and "it" factor for quarterbacks.

Matt Ryan has that "it" factor and hes a guy you can build your team around. Parcells has been doing this for a while and he knows when a guy is too good to pass up.

And I dont really see any other quarterbacks that will be entering the draft the next couple years that will be rated higher than Matt Ryan.

Matt Ryan is a HIGHLY overrated prospect.

He isn't close to the prospect Manning was (and others) who went #1 overall.. Usually when a QB is hyped so much he has some standout physical ability.. And Ryan doesn't.

His numbers also bring up some alarming things.. He was under 60% completions DESPITE completing 44% of his passes for easy dumpoffs to running backs etc.. Brian Brohm has a better than 60% completion rate, and did it by completing only 32% of his passes to such dumpoff routes. Advantage Brohm.

Matt Ryan is going to be another Brian Griese, Joey Harrington type QB in the NFL.

Matt Ryan's stats really arent that bad, especially when you look at Dan Marino's college stats (see below)

Ryan is too good to pass up in the middle of the first round at best.

No , it goes way over yours.. Because it's quite obvious to anyone who has really studied Matt Ryan playing football.

I cannot believe there is anyone here (including the Ryan supporters) who saw enough of Ryan in college to be that confident that he's going to be a franchise player. People keep going on about his great "intangibles" - sure but I couldn't really give a £%*& how great his leadership skills are if his decision making, arm and accuracy are clearly not good enough to warrant a high draft pick.

He made Boston College, without him they were just average team.
Other QB's like Matt Leinart and Jamarques Russell had a great supporting cast.

Dan Marino dropped to the last QB taken in the 1st because of his stats and some off field issues, that was probably the right place for him to be picked and at excellent value for the Dolphins to select him there. Marino also had a GUN for an arm and very few question marks about his talent unlike Ryan who has a tonne of question marks especially having only an above average arm, not something to write home about.

You're insane. Boston College had a very good football team.. a great D and a great O-line. Matt Ryan did a good job with his little dumpoff passes though, which he did about half of the time.

Exactly.. Dan Marino dropped in the draft because of his rumored cocaine and drug use.

That didn't stop Miami, and dropping in the draft didn't stop Marino.. Dan was a bigtime coke head during his years in Miami..

Philip Rivers was the same way

Rivers had a 64% completion % in college, not less than 60 like Ryan last year.. And Rivers completed alot less than 44% of his passes to backs out of the backfield via simple dump off's.

To have under 60% completions, and have a whopping 44% of your completions to backs via simple dump off's like Ryan did, is a bad combination no matter how you try to spin it.

BTW, Rivers showed alot more talent at QB than Matt Ryan ever did. Rivers does have at least one thing going for him, and that's a boatload of talent. Rivers was a four-year starter for the NC State Wolfpack, and he set numerous school and NCAA records thanks to ridiculous statistics such as 13,484 career passing yards, 95 touchdowns, and a career efficiency rating of 144.16.

Let's face it, if Matt Ryan came out even in Jay Cutler's draft year, Cutler would have went before him. Matt Ryan is in no way shape or form worthy of a #1 pick... No way no how.

Like I said, if a QB is to drafted #1 overall he BETTER show some amazing "Blow your mind" physical attribute. And Ryan doesn't.

Anyone that watched Ryan against Florida State this year would have a brain and immediately know that he is not even close to being a franchise QB yet alone be a #1 pick.
