PATS won with no RB

My friend, you are in denial. Quite understandable. It will take a great deal of courage to get through this season. The Patriots did not have a Ricky Williams, true. They had brilliant coaching and ridiculous depth at every position, not to mention a pretty good QB, which we do not have. We can not win more than 6 games this year, and that's if the team does not quit on Wanny.

A few more words: Lions franchise following Sanders

Give me a f*ckin' break...........the Lions franchise.........what else did they have besides Barry? We've at least got a top level defense and up-and-coming offensive stars in Chambers and McMichael..........brother please.....the Lions were crap with him and crap without him.

We should start referring to dolphins as the Red Sox.
Don't you say that! Don't you EVER EVER say that! :tsk:  Seriously though, not cool.

I'm sorry. I just felt upset last night. I should never have said that about the Phins being the redsox. WE will find a way to win. Hell we found a way to make the playoffs 5 years with out a RB and Wanny some of the time.

They made the playoffs a number of years in a row with him. After 97, the downward spiral began. And today... 2 years without a win on the road.

Actually their record with him was very mediocre. Here is the stats copied from Detroit's page from the first year in 1989 when he joined the Lions through 2004 (he retired in 1998).

Mediocre is being polite, he added nothing to them apart from the Lions having a superstar.

1989 Wayne Fontes 7-9-0 .438 0-4-0 312 364 4-4-0 3-5-0 3rd NFC Central
1990 Wayne Fontes 6-10-0 .375 4-0-0 373 413 3-5-0 3-5-0 3rd NFC Central
1991 Wayne Fontes 12-4-0 .750 1-1 2-3-0 339 295 8-0-0 4-4-0 1st NFC Central
1992 Wayne Fontes 5-11-0 .313 1-3-0 273 332 3-5-0 2-6-0 5th NFC Central
1993 Wayne Fontes 10-6-0 .625 0-1 4-0-1 298 292 5-3-0 5-3-0 1st NFC Central
1994 Wayne Fontes 9-7-0 .563 0-1 2-2-0 357 342 6-2-0 3-5-0 3rd NFC Central
1995 Wayne Fontes 10-6-0 .625 0-1 3-1-0 436 336 7-1-0 3-5-0 2nd NFC Central
1996 Wayne Fontes 5-11-0 .455 3-1-0 302 369 4-4-0 1-7-0 5th NFC Central
1997 Bobby Ross 9-7-0 .563 0-1 1-3-0 379 306 6-2-0 3-5-0 3rd NFC Central
1998 Bobby Ross 5-11-0 .313 1-3-0 306 378 4-4-0 1-7-0 4th NFC Central
1999 Bobby Ross 8-8-0 .500 0-1 1-3-0 322 323 6-2-0 2-6-0 3rd NFC Central
2000 Bobby Ross** 9-7-0 .563 2-2-0 307 307 4-4-0 5-3-0 4th NFC Central
2001 Marty Mornhinweg 2-14-0 .125 1-3-0 270 424 2-6-0 0-8-0 5th NFC Central
2002 Marty Mornhinweg 3-13-0 .188 1-3-0 306 451 3-5-0 0-8-0 4th NFC North
2003 Steve Mariucci 5-11-0 .313 3-1 270 379 5-3-0 0-8-0 4th NFC North

1991, 93 and 95 were their only decent years, finishing 1 or 2 in the NFC North, otherwise they have sucked before him, with him and after him. Though in his defense, the Lions never provided him any decent surrounding team mates, and the management and coachhing has been questionable for a very long time.

Our team is better than any Lions team when they had Sanders. This is a major blow, but we still have a very good defense, and still have good receivers. If we can get a QB on our team to play well and get some decent blocking on our OL, we can have a decent offense. However, I'm not going to hide the fact that this really hurts and I doubt we will make the playoffs this year.

I also agree that we could make the playoofs without a running back. We made the playoffs with Lamar Smith. We have two really great receivers. I understand Ricky's heart was not in the game anymore, but why did he not retire in March. He really let down all of his team mates, fans, and coaches. It is really a shame because God gave him all this talent, and he is just wasting it. I really hope one of quaterbacks step up and play great this season. Use this distraction as a motivator. Just think how Ricky will feel when we make it to the Superbowl without him.

Note that they were actually making the playoffs when he was there and did have good offensive players at the time. Or did you forget that they had a receiving trio that was feared in the league?

Not a chance

Considering that both Larry Johnson and Steven Jackson were drafted in the 1st round, (the Rams actually moved up for Jackson) it would take an obscene amount of compensation to pull those guys away.

Plus the Rams just signed Jackson so they would be taking the entire signing bonus cap hit to have the guy on the team for a couple days.
