Respect between new Miami Dolphins DL coach Kris Kocurek, Ndamukong Suh runs deep

I think he played well but definitely room for improvement...you think he played lights out pro bowl like?
I think he was good, definitely an improvement from the last couple of years.....but he still has much to prove.......and NO he was not lights out or pro bowl like.

I only put x over Phillips cause x plays every down and his technique is top shelf

On a snap by snap played basis I’d have it suh and Phillips top 2

Phillips played dominant this year! Kid has just got to stop getting knicked up. Honestly tho the most guy im excited to see next year because a constantly dominant Phillips next to Suh is scary. Phillips, Howard,Harris, Grant In that order for me. Well other than the obvious clear number 1 RT17 coming back stronger than ever
Dominant?? no improved?? yes.

This is one of the few things that could be done to make me feel better about the Suh contract. If anyone can teach this line how to play complimentary to Suh, it's this guy.

As I see it, we've not gotten our return on any investments we've made in the DL. This can possibly turn the corner and get this entire DL to be a REAL strength of the team (and not just hyped).

And he needs to make his bones by getting the most out of what we have. I don't want to spend more money on the DL. We need to get returns on what has been spent.

This year, we need to focus on the LBs.

A base LE is indeed a need unless we roll with Malveaux. I wouldn't be opposed to that but then you'd probably need 2-3 DEs next year if Wake slows down/retires, Branch doesn't improve and Malveaux remains JAG.

Not to mention Harris, even if he improves, he's not a base RE either.

Coach looks like he could still play. I think the D-line will bring it on every down next year. imo we still need a pass rusher but there's talent there, specially inside

Ozzy rules!!

Wake is, literally, not a normal human. If managed correctly, Wake may have 2 or 3 more years in a specialist role. He had another double digit sack year again. Aging? Yes. But the rumors of his demise are a bit premature. Harris needs to answer that bell.

As for rotational DE's, those can be plucked rather easily in late rounds or off the scrap heap.

I've said it before, DE is a position we have always been able to cultivate. Where we need to spend serious resources is LB.

I’m sure base le is why ansahs name keeps getting talked up

Be Mario Williams role in Miami except expecting 8 to 12 sack production and plus run d

If checks out medically gonna cost you $17 mil per I bet or more 5 and 85 6 and 102 7 and 119 although I’m sure teams don’t want to commit to 7 years there

Don’t see any 5 and 65 coming there as a free agent

Ansah could play 3 down LE for all I care. He's that good. But if we get him and keep Wake, you kick'em inside on passing downs. And that pass rush package would be scary.

I think they’d make him an every down le just like they envisioned with Mario

Harris probably kick inside more to rush over th centers face etc if wake was still here

But it definitely would give us lots of looks opportunities

I’d put the odds here though at very slim but with his dline coach now here ehh small chance.

If I’m Detroit I’d tag him if I have to

Phillips is still really just one dimensional, he can rush the passer but he's still poor against the run.

I hope Phillip’s spends another off-season working out with Suh. That could help him take the next step towards being more consistently disruptive. :-)

JMO but....

Any DT next to Suh should be freed up to make plays. I haven't seen this on a consistent basis. We need someone next to Suh who either commands double teams or can take advantage of the one-on-one match-ups. If you look at the top defenses in the league they all have two high quality inside guys. We haven't had that for awhile. Look at Philly who runs the same scheme. They have two in Cox and Jernigan. Their entire front 4 gets pressure. Until we can do that this scheme will be middle of the road to lower end. This scheme is built on that concept.

Godchaux was a pleasant surprise but he has some penalty/technique issues to clean up. He had too many defensive holding issues that may be a sign of technique problems. That should get better under new DL coach. Phillips played 100 fewer snaps (500 to 400) than Godchaux. That was his directive from Gase when the season started...to get his snaps up. Vincent Taylor had two more tackles than Phillips who played more than twice the amount of snaps (402 to 185). Not sure how that happens (and I realize tackle numbers don't tell the whole story). Not sure who played more in base and nickel.

Detorit has 50M in cap space. They should be able to re-sign Ziggy unless the new coach is 3-4 and they don't like him there. He's the only real top quality edge player they have so they would be starting from scratch without him.
