The Chicago White Sox Thread

Yes, that would be a horrible deal.

For the Pads. Just looking at the team right now offensively next season it'll be totally different. Konerko/Pierzynski/Thome and either Crede or Fields are the only guys I see as "locks."

Despite Jermaine Dye's two homers, the White Sox were unable to salvage a split of the series, falling, 5-3, to the O's on Sunday afternoon. Dye finished the game 2-for-4. Starter Jose Contreras allowed five runs on 10 hits in six innings, while striking out three.

The possibility exists that the White Sox could re-sign right fielder Jermaine Dye, a consideration that leaves manager Ozzie Guillen hesitant to talk about the future. Dye's case to stay could be helped by the fact that Triple-A outfielders Ryan Sweeney and Brian Anderson (out with a wrist injury) haven't developed as quickly as the Sox would like. "It depends on how Sweeney is," Guillen said of whether Dye could be re-signed. "You have to be realistic."

The White Sox bounced back from Tuesday's late-inning collapse at Jacobs Field with a 5-1 victory Wednesday to grab a series win. Mark Buehrle continued to prove his redefined worth with 6 1/3 innings of one-run ball and Paul Konerko hit his 20th homer.

Two months after general manager Ken Williams said he wasn't afraid to "shuffle the deck" and four weeks after declaring "something has to happen," manager Ozzie Guillen expressed doubt Thursday night that the White Sox would make any trades before the July 31 trading deadline.

CHICAGO -- After trading on-field punches for the first 5 1/2 innings on Tuesday afternoon at U.S. Cellular Field, Paul Konerko delivered the knockout punch with a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth to secure the White Sox 5-3 victory over the Tigers.

The White Sox rallied from a six-run deficit to post an 8-7 win and notch a doubleheader sweep of the Tigers on Tuesday. Jim Thome hit a three-run homer, and A.J. Pierzynski plated the go-ahead run. Javier Vazquez led Chicago to a 5-3 win in the opener.

The Yankees had scout Jeff Wetherby watching the White Sox yesterday against the Tigers in a doubleheader in Chicago. Since the Yankees play the White Sox next week, Wetherby likely is doing advance scouting. However, the White Sox have heavily scouted the Yankees recently and had scout Bill Scherrer at Kauffman Stadium last night. The White Sox are getting a lot of interest in right-handed starter Jon Garland, with the Yankees among the teams.

Although the chances of Jermaine Dye getting a contract extension with the White Sox appear extremely slim, the right fielder reiterated his preference Wednesday night to stay in Chicago.

With Tuesday's non-waiver trade deadline looming, the White Sox added depth to their farm system, acquiring 21-year-old righty Michael Dubee from Philadelphia for Tadahito Iguchi. Dubee appeared in 30 games as a reliever at Class A this year.

Juan Uribe's two-run double in the sixth was the difference in the White Sox 4-3 victory over the Blue Jays on Friday. It was Chicago's third come-from-behind win in four days. Jon Garland allowed three runs in 7 1/3 innings. Jermaine Dye hit a solo home.

Despite speculation to the contrary, the White Sox remained relatively low key as the trade deadline passed on Tuesday at 3 p.m. CT. Jermaine Dye, rumored to be heading to Boston, stayed put, but Rob Mackowiak was sent to the Padres for a Minor Leaguer.
