The only reason I can think of is that someone in harboring racist thoughts and please correct me if I am wrong, I hate having a jaded view of society...

Goldberg wasn't Asian. He looked mixed. He was some minority, but I am positive it wasn't Asian.

I would assume he'd be Jewish in the story. Many Jewish people have tanned skin, which actually represents from what I've heard the more direct descendants of the original Hebrews(Europeans who live in America today have lighter skin).
