Would you cut Wake to sign Ziggy Ansah?

He will get a lot more than what Vernon got.
No way. He's 29 and hhas injury issues. You realize Vernon got almost 100 mill right? No way ansah gets the same deal or better than Vernon and suh.

I know Wake is a beloved member of the Dolphins, but he's only got a couple years left, if that.

His savings if cut would be $8.125 million. Would you cut Wake and use that space to sign a younger, every-down defensive end like Ansah?

And on a side note, overthecap.com says that Miami can cut Kiko with no penalty, which I didn't think was the case. Not sure if it's an error, but if so, that's another $9.6M that can be cleared off the books for an underperforming player.

Over The Cap is wrong. There are 13.1M reasons you can't cut Kiko this season. Next year however is completely different as there are only 3.5M reasons.

You're right, That cap hit is a killer for Kiko "and the Dolphins :) "
soonest time to get rid of Kiko would be after next season.
What's your opinion?

Yes, I would agree the moment the 2019 league year starts Kiko will be let go, as it goes to only 3.5 in dead cap space. I, of course, would rather Kiko proves me wrong and performs at elite level, but what is more likely is by the end of 2018 he will be on the bench. He is just such a liability in coverage, provides nothing as a blitzer, and can’t make plays in the back field.

I'm ready to replace Wake with a younger player that can at play the run better and still rush the passer. Wake can't play the run and has been ver inconsistent rushing the QB. Most of his sacks came in a few games while he did nothing in several games. He got no sacks in 6 games and in one of them has no tackles at all. Love the guy and what he's done but it's time to move on

Patriots and Steelers would have let Wake go 2 years ago.
Why? Wake has more sacks in the last 2 years than anyone on their roster... And by a wide margin...

Ziggy is pretty much the same... 3X 3 sacks games, 3X 1 sack games, 8 games without a sack...

Is this correct? Kiko's dead money is 13 million?

I agree and I didn't say that I want him. I said I'd want a DE that can play the run and rush the QB. I don't believe one will be there at 11 that's worth taking but one could be there at 42 or 73

Kiko should never have got that extension

Yes that is true. His deal is essentially a 2 year deal worth 6.3m per year average and then an option for 2 more years worth 8.2m per year. In 2019 you can cut him for 3.5m is dead space and save 5.3m.

IDK we didn't have a lot to work with on the roster and 6.3m over two years isn't terrible for an outside LB. I mean he is the 19th paid OLB in terms of average.

I believe with a post-June 1, 2019 designation, the cap hit the next year would actually be about half that. Courtesy of overthecap unless I have misunderstood.

It's a pay me now pay me later type thing. Guaranteed cash is exactly that guaranteed. A post June 1st cut would be 9.6m this year with 3.5m next in dead money. Cutting him gains basically zero for the year and you still lose a player. Kiko is going to be on the roster in 2018 like it or not unless they trade him after June 1st. That is an option that would save the team money (7.9m to be exact in 2018).

Na I'd rather keep an aging wake for as long as we can and just continue to suck on defense. I'm all for keeping cutler as well, let's just keep everyone from this great team

22 sacks last 2 seasons... Such a liability...
