Dolphins resign McKinney

Guys it's an 'insurance' signing. $900k plus a minimum salary for the year is just fine to insure the team doesn't get caught with it's pants down and only Wade Smith/undrafted center as the only centers. I highly doubt he starts.

some people seem to forget that you can't upgrade every position in 1 or 2 years. I think he did a servicable job last year, and I could deal with him another year and draft and free Agency until the line is more of what Saban and company would like it to be.

I don't know why some of you think this is the end of the world. McKinney did a good job last year and I believe that he didn't allow a single sack. Oh and just because we re-signed him doesn't mean he will start. Don't forget that he is our only center and we could draft one early.

Houck can work wonders with the OL. We've seen that in San Diego and here last year. I trust he's a good judge of talent and if he thinks McKinney can be our center, then so do I. He wasn't exactly horrible last year anyway.

no maybe b/c instead of spending it on a C we can spend it on LaVar and another hole. who knows b/c he has been saying it for a while now that the C spot needs to be upgraded so clearly there is a reason behind all this i believe. isn't it a 2 yr 5 mill? why is evyerone saying 1 year unless i read wrong?

I'm not dancing in the streets on this one, but there is only so much that can done within the structure of the salary cap. McKinney will be a servicable back-up this year at guard/center.

As long as Hadnot is given a shot to win the starting center job, and legitimately beats out Mckinney, this is an excellent signing from an OL depth standpoint.

This is essentially a one year deal because Mckinney will never get the 2.5 million roster bonus next year as explained above (unless he morphs into dwight stephenson at some point during this season).

Because it's like Tebucky Jones 2 year deal last year that jumped from a 1.5 million 2005 cap hit to 6 million in 2006. Very unlikely we pay the 2nd year of McKinney's heavily backloaded deal (2.5 million bonus + 2007 salary).

I'm disappointed with this signing, but I could tolerate this signing if it meant McKinney would be used in a back-up role... but only if he came cheap. We definitely overpaid Seth here, I don't know why... I was hoping to see Hadnot at C, but at least this is only a one year deal because Seth won't be kept around next year with a 1 million dollar bonus and a 2.5 million dollar signing bonus.

Were there really no other better options out there in Free Agency? I don't think so... I think we could have gotten a great veteran Center in: Mike Flanagan, Jeff Mitchell, Corey Raymer, Trey Teague, etc.

Yes, we had missed out on LeCharles Bentley, Kevin Mawae, Justin Hartwig, and Melvin Foweler.

I think with the money we offered to McKinney, that there were better options for us at Center.

I think a lot of you guys are viewing him from his years under Wanny and Wise. As his agent in the article pointed out, Mckinney felt he learned more in one year under Saban and Houck than he had in all the years previously. From what my eyes told me, I agree! He is entering the prime of his career with another year under the tutelage of Houck.

I'm totally fine with this signing and I wouldn't have been a year ago.

Did you ever think that maybe, just maybe, those guys are NOT upgrades? Furthermore, they are older guys. And we did not overpay, if you look at how the deal is structured it is basically a 1 year deal.

WTF!

It IS a 1 year deal, but its pretty good cash for a horrible center...... WTF!

I wanted to see Hadnot at C. Blech.

I doubt McKinney is going to start over Hadnot, unless Hadnot looks horrible (Of the times I have seen him there, he has looked better then as a guard), Seth is also a better Guard, and can backup Hadnot.
