Ryan Fitzpatrick To Miami

Would’ve rather have given a young QB the opportunity, no matter how slight the chance, to grow. We know what Fitz is.

If we’re most likely to struggle anyway, struggle with possible growth.

What excites me about Fitz is the prospect of the knowledge he can/will impart to Murray. :chuckle:
With a crap Oline, we may see 3 or 4 qb's this year.

Explain the Cleveland Browns from 2002 - 2017?

The nfl is not going to interfere, anything short of cheating.

The NFL is use to the Browns losing, maybe they just felt sorry for them???

The NFL was use to the Dolphins winning, we're gonna stand out like a sore thumb. :chuckle:

I certainly do not- absolutely do not- wish harm to Fitz but I’d really like to see Falk or Rudock if we don’t draft a QB.

I at least hope they give them plenty of first team snaps in preseason.

It might have been offered, but I suspect he would have wanted to sign here without being given any assurances. Look at the facts. He's an older journeyman QB who has lost the trust of every coach he's played for, not because he's a jerk or a bad performer, but because he has a low ceiling, lacks consistency, and is nearing the end of his NFL career. Getting a starter's salary is very unlikely. Getting a chance to start is unlikely. We are one of the few locations/staffs that has not had him that would even give him a chance to start. And, if we are indeed tanking, we are clearly his best chance to start. Plus, I suspect our money was competitive, without state taxes, and in a nice place to live. He's played in Tampa, so he probably likes Florida by now.

Think about it, he's a very smart guy, savvy, played in a lot of different systems, and he learns things quickly, and this is a tough system to learn. Very QB-specific, so he'll have a big leg up on any rookie or new QB.

Hard to put a Haskins or Rosen behind this current o line. Hell lock bails the pocket backwards which is a massive no no vs pressure.

The state of the o line is probably the biggest reason I have a hard time buying into drafting/acquiring any of these options.

Does Miami even have its eye on a cheap vet right tackle fill in?

Not only do you have to give the league the impression your not tanking but also your own
players. Players play to win but they are also playing for their next contract. Your not going to sell to your team that you are pissing away this season when they have their livelihood on the line.

How many other teams with open starting jobs were out there?

* Does no research *

I'm thinking zero.

He may have been assured the starting spot before signing?

Fitzpatrick chose Dolphins to be starting QB

Ryan Fitzpatrick is planning to be the Miami Dolphins 2019 starting quarterback, and that opportunity to start was enough for him to pick a rebuilding team over other situations with comparable money.

"The way that I view this is there's 32 of these starting gigs in the NFL, and this is one of them. The opportunity to be one of those 32 guys is an amazing privilege and honor," Fitzpatrick said. "When they approached me about signing on, I was so excited about the chance to get on the field and play."

Fitzpatrick, 36, knows he's on the back end of his career, and that's what makes this opportunity even sweeter. The idea of the Dolphins rebuilding didn't seem to bother him, and he said he had several conversations with the Dolphins about the fluidity of their quarterback situation.

 "I mean, even the worst of the 32 is better than nothing."

It actually is pretty funny, what other teams did he have he could start for? He probably had to pinch himself.

But on the Dolphins side, we needed a QB to be a punching bag and a QB that knew he was needed 1-2 years tops to be the bag. :blackeye

Fitz knows his role. It’s the same role he’s played for 7 other teams.

Place holder. Nothing more nothing less.

With a Harvard education, he should know that his job is to lose games in Miami.

Get the number one pick in the 2020 draft and the 2nd year is guaranteed.

(did I just say that out loud)

Why should it matter. The league can’t prove anything. The league sat quietly by as the Colts trotted out Curtis Painter every week, with no effort to bring in a competent veteran.
The Phins coaches and FO have the right to start ANY QB on their roster. The league would lose in court if they tried to take away a draft pick.

Just because the league let something happen 10 years ago doesn't mean they'll let it happen again. As for losing in court, that's also no guaranteed on that point either as the NFL is a club that gets to make their own rules. Given that no draft pick is a guaranteed win, we might be back at the draft table without a QB and without picks -- that's one hell of a game of chicken
