Isiah Prince Film Breakdown By Ot Reid Fragel

He got a little bit better later in his career, but you have to understand what he was getting better from. It was awful.

He was targeted by opposing DC's his sophomore year in games when the OL gave up 14 sacks vs. Penn St. and Michigan. He had another one of those games last year as a Senior against Minnesota when Carter Coughlin was just killing him. Speed around the edge gets in his head and he goes in the tank.

You just can't unsee those performances once you saw it. I left him completely off my draft board after the Minnesota game. It was the last straw for me. I've never seen an offensive lineman have performances like the one's Prince has had go on to be any good.

However, in the 6th round - it seems Miami's coaches think they can help him. I'm not sure. Evidently they feel like they can.

Perhaps we guard his flank with a TE chip etc. But I know I've seen this dude blunt some big names like Gary (see Congemi video) and knock some others on their a$$! Personally I love that physical dimension we've lacked... I think he's a sold pick in R6. Hope so...

Nice article.

If there are any fans, not familiar with the site you linked, Miamidolphins.com, Andy Cohen has some very well written articles the past several days. He's a homer, but he a good writer.

This is a good look at our 6th round pick by former Buckeye and NFL OT Reid Fragel whose been working with him.

Thank you for the clip.

No disrespect intended whatsoever, but this video is a joke. It looks at exactly 3 blocks, two of which were double-teams of 2 OL vs. 1 DL. The sole 1v1 block shown was against Tulane, not exactly NFL caliber competition. It was an excellent pancake, not trying to undersell that … but Tulane doesn't put many players in the NFL, and that guys not likely to be one of them. Yes, like the effort to make a tackle on the Haskins INT, that is also appreciated.

Look, if you want to know about Isaiah Prince, here's the lowdown. He's a big physical mauler with nice natural ability and exceptional size, good length, and pretty decent potential. But, he's still very raw. His technique isn't so great and he plays a bit lazy, not finishing blocks, quitting blocking when he thinks the play has passed him or is on the other side of the field. His run blocking is good today, but his pass protection is very spotty.

IMHO, this isn't a day 1 starter, this is a project. Sure, if we're tanking, playing projects is perfectly fine, in fact it is encouraged. But, don't expect him to be a plug and play lineman, because he is definitely going to take his lumps, particularly in the passing game with those elite speed/quickness guys in the NFL.

I thought Minnesota was the game he got whooped, but I couldn't find it. Some of the Willekes pressures I remembered vs Prince came vs the LT, and that game wasn't as bad as I remembered - still plenty of issues.

I agree with you, and I didn't list him either. I can see why Miami liked him that late, though.

I agree... wasn’t suggesting it was a detailed player breakdown...just a “look” at our 6th round pick.

My understanding is he started 40+ games at a very big school... and he improved a lot in 2018 over the previous seasons... obviously a project that hopefully pays dividends.

Yo! What year is this firm???

I know the 1st is 2016.

Seems like we should be focused on 2018.

My .02.

Gotcha. That makes sense. :)

I think Jarid Jones-Smith will probably beats Prince as the back up RT. But like many have said, Im sure they will keep Prince as a work in progress project.

Balance is definitely the primary issue I see with Prince. When he gets his hands on guys, and he has his center, he often drives them into the ground. Did it to Willekes, Gary, and Winovich. But, he also had his struggles with Willekes and Winovich - though not as bad as I remembered. He bends at the waist too much, and that seems like a relatively easy correction, but plenty of OT's were never able to fix that issue.

Given the draft position, I think he's fine, but if he develops into a good NFL OT, we'll know that Miami has something special at OL Coach, because he needs a lot of work.
It’s almost like he’s gotten so used to playing high and waist bending a bit, he’s learning to win while doing it..quick off the snap and does crush fools when he centers them, Lotta work needed like you said.

As a Buckeye fan, I can confidently say that I've seen damn near every game he's played. I can also say that when I found out the 'phins drafted him, the first thing that I did was laugh and say to myself..."Oh no!"

I cannot tell you how many times Prince singlehandedly killed Buckeye drives with holds and false starts...something we 'phins fans have experienced all too often over the years.

In fact, most every time a Buckeye offensive lineman got flagged for something, it seemed like it was Prince.

I truly hope that with some good, quality NFL coaching, Prince can and will improve.

According to what I'm reading here we should not expect much from Prince. It might teak a year at least before he gets to play for what I'm hearing. I guess all we can do is hope the staff saw something that others can't see.
