10 Best -- Offensive Linemen in Miami History

It's amazing that Bruce Smith had only 2.5 sacks on Marino from 1985 to 1992 and 9.5 total. I just remember the guy wreaking havoc all the time. He was JJ Watt before JJ Watt.
thats impressive. just the same, one play sticks in my mind as devastating where smith beat Webb for a sack. 1992 AFC title game. First half, driving and just inside FG range w key 3rd down. Whoop - just like that points come off the board and Buff gets the momentum and proceeds to take over the game. Play epitomized how when it really mattered, the Bills would find a way to make a play against us and we just couldn't get passed them during those years. They were a great team and deserved every bit of success they had. It was just so frustrating that we'd play them tough in the regular season (sometimes split, even won the division by a game over them in 1992) yet when the playoffs came around, no matter how good we played, they always played a little better. But I digress. 2.5 sacks yielded to Smith is great work by Webb. That said, Dan didn't get sacked by anyone. He was put on the ground less than 20 times a year and not because he has a great O-line (Webb not withstanding).

One of my favourite Dolphins was Mark Dixon - an excellent guard and a more-than-serviceable left tackle. I would rank him above Carey too

I was 10 years old watching that game. What I remember was buffalo screening us to death(crazy we never adjusted) and Louis Oliver intercepting Kelly right before halftime in the endzone which should have been a touchback but instead ref said he was down inside the 1. Awful that's the last time we played in AFC championship game, thought we would definitely be back

they did - screens to Thomas and Davis on what felt like every play. That's what beat us. The most frustrating thing was that was the year the Oilers had the 35-3 3rd quarter lead on the Bills the week before. I was ecstatic as Houston couldn't play on grass and we matched up great against them. Was counting the days to the SB already. Then somehow, and for some unknown reason, the Oilers offense continued to throw the ball eschewing the notion of running ANY clock in the 2nd half while Frank Reich led the biggest comeback in NFL History at the time. I was sick to my stomach as I'm sure many dolphins fans were. Had we gotten the Oilers we would have played in the SB.

Ed Newman was better than Giesler. Wayne Moore needs to be on the list and call me crazy but I think Jake Long edges out Vernon Carey.

I remember Geisler as being a oft injured but solid starter. Ed Newman dominated.
Wayne Moore was a great player, over shadowed by Larry Little ad the rest.
Jake Long easily over Vernon Carey. Long was a great player for 2 years then his back issues ruined his career, Carey was average at best. Most of the time the fans and team wanted him gone.

I was at the game. I really though we had a shot to finally beat them in the playoffs. All those years of losing teams stocked them with great talent, then Jim Kelly and Marv Levy arrived. So frustrating.
Our 1992 -1994 teams were pretty dam good.
A funny memory of the game was the whole section yelling 'Bills Suck!" 'Bills Suck" Bills SucK" so loud that offense standing alog the sidelines turned around and started rubbing their asses...like Kiss our ass...LOL
Man I miss those days when the Fins were relevant.

No mention of (Solomon) Wayne Moore? I would put him ahead Jon Giesler, maybe even Webb. Moore appeared in three super bowls, a pro bowl, 9 years with Miami.

I totally forgot about Wayne Moore. I think he's in the 8-10 range, no?

I went back and forth on Jake Long. His first couple of years it looked like he could be a Hall of Famer, but obviously injuries took their toll. I think his team first attitude ultimately hurt him as he played through some injuries that he probably shouldn't have. No question he could flip flop with Carey.

Carey and Vince Wilfork were both available to the Dolphins in 2004. Carey's career was pretty much what I would have expected from the 19th overall selection, maybe a little underachieving. Wilfork on the other hand went on to be a game changing force. His only knock out of college was that he was a bit raw. I think Jake Long should be on the list based on his brief period of dominance. Loved Richmond Webb and he saved Marino from an early retirement by keeping Bruce Smith at bay.

I remember thinking that Wilfork dropped right into the Dolphins lap, but then the team went with Carey. Carey was solid, but Wilfork would have been the better pick. Miami was desperate for offensive line help.

Page had tackles at
3:29
5:32
17:40 behind the line of scrimmage on Jim Kiick
35:03 sack
126:41 tackle with Larson

My source for that information must have been off, or did Paige go against someone else when he made those plays? Thanks for setting the record straight there. I still think top five is about right for Kuechenberg.

agree. Regardless of whether Page had any tackles or not, Keuch was a top 5 no question and should be in the HOF.

Richmond Webb, maybe the best of the bunch. He went against a Buffalo team that drafted in the top 5 for 10 years in a row, and had arguable more raw talent than any team in the NFL. Some of the battles between Webb and Smith were classic, but the whole DL- LB core for the Bills was outstanding, often forcing Webb to go 1 on 1 with one of the best to ever play. Webb way more than held his own. Cary does not belong in the top 10, period. Perennial under achever.

If Wannstedt knew what he was doing, he would have drafted Wilfork. Especially if he realized Tim Bowens and Larry Chester were not going to be playing much in 2004 and beyond. Maybe that's why he quit in the middle of the season.
