You have to co-ordinate your Draft and F/A or you'll never move up to SB contender.
I'd limit my F/A only by the "cap". Last year, MIAMI was $9 or 10 Million under the "cap", and the whole League knew that MIAMI's interior O-Line was a shambles. There were at least 4 very solid F/A Gs that I still remember (GALLERY, COLLEDGE and both of ATLANTA's starters), and a couple more after the late cuts (cap casualties). How many did MIAMI go after? NONE!!! Stupid ROSS decided to go the "cheap route". So, after everyone good was gone, what does MIAMI do? Rummages thru DALLAS's garbage can and comes up with....COLUMBO, the worst T in football! So, in desperation, SPARANO has to move a serviceable veteran RT (CAREY) to RG, where he hadn't played since "The U". IF stupid ROSS hadn't cheaped out, then the "worst case scenario" was that MIAMI would've got a solid F/A G to play LG next to LONG, w/POUNCEY at C and INCOGNITO at RG where he really should be, and CAREY at RT with JERRY/GARNER providing depth. COLUMBO would have been ELSEWHERE! He was a joke, and the COLUMBO /CAREY experiment was, too. COLUMBO consistently hurt us. By my count, he was responsible for at least 5 stalled drives/game. And given the fact that MIAMI lost to DENVER, DALLAS, the GIANTS, N.E.II and CLEVELAND by 3 points or less, I have to believe that COLUMBO cost MIAMI 5 losses. And also, given that MIAMI lost to HOUSTON and SD by 6, maybe as many as 2 more. FLYNN never had to deal w/such crap. MOORE did: he AND MIAMI deserved a better fate...like about10-2 w/a solid shot at 11-1, w/an overall mar record of 12-4, and the Playoffs. As to stupid ROSS, right after he fired SPARANO, he should have fired HIMSELF. (sorry for the rant)
Be that as it may, if you don't learn the lessons of history, you're doomed to repeat them. CUT COLUMBO immediately to start the new football year, and get either of the two 2 Gs mentioned in this thread. Then move CAREY back to RT, and let MURTHA compete for a T position w/CAREY and JERRY, both of whom can play G anyway. Let GARNER back up everyone except LONG, but let him take some "reps" at C: I still remember how VERY well he played C in that game where both J BERGER and J GROVE went down in the 1st Half! SO...OL problem solved!
Also as to F/A, I'd also target MEACHEM. He's fast, and a solid, complete WR. If MIAMI can get him, moving up to get BLACKMON wouldn't be necessary. If MIAMI can't get him, or any other fast veteran WR, then I'd move up to get BLACKMON. But getting MEACHEM would allow MIAMI to target T RICHARDSON in the Draft. This would be ideal given his talent. But beyond that, it's ideal because as things stand, if R BUSH goes down or even gets "dinged" and misses time, MIAMI's running game is crapola for the duration thereof.
Beyond that, I'd go after the best FS in F/A. I'd then move R JONES to SS where he belongs i/m/o, and cut BELL, who costs $6.2 Million (I believe) and can't cover his a** anymore. As to a pass-rushing OLB, AVRIL would be who I'd go after, and I'd do it wholeheartedly. Then I'd cut MISI (who's a bust as a pass-rusher) and IKOOKOO IMMA FRENCHFRY (or whatever his name is).
As to FLYNN, his resumee is too thin and it consists of playing for GB, a topshelf team and organization. I would NOT offer him "KOLB MONEY", UNLESS Coach PHILBIN very strongly vouches for him. As to P MANNING (if 100% healthy), that's a wholly different universe!
Lastly, how much can be done? All of those F/As cost $$$, right?!!! Well, MIAMI was about $9-10 Million under the "cap" last season, and the "cap" is going up this year. And just by cutting BELL and COLUMBO, MIAMI saves c. $7 Million in capspace. There's a lot of deadwood on MIAMI's roster, so it can be done. In fact, it would HAVE TO BE DONE anyway, because every F/A or Draftee who makes the team needs a roster spot. But it's about time the deadwood was trimmed!
As to what else MIAMI does in the Draft, that would depend on how/what MIAMI does in F/A.
P.S.: Message to ROSS--WINNING will put fans in those seats, not some celebrity wiggling her a** and jiggling her hooters.
