Honestly I think Marty-ball would be an excellent idea. I know he was 5-12 in the playoffs but his average margin loss in the playoffs was 3 points. That means his teams were always in the games.
Marty was in San Diego and built a bad Charger team into one of the deepest and talented teams in the league. They have tapered off just recently which proves how well he did building that team. He was unjustly fired from that team after a 14-2 season. At that time I was stationed in Diego and that team was very good. Their problem was once they started their season so strong the fans thought they were Super Bowl bound, but you got to learn how to win in the playoffs first, not just the regular season. Just ask Matty Ice. There was undue pressure and they lost to Tom Brady cuz they intercepted him at end of game and instead of taking a knee the safety tried to make a play and fumbled giving the ball back to the patriots with seconds to spare. Chargers lose, Marty gets axed.
Marty wants back in the league, is a very classy guy who would bring back "respectability" back to south Florida's Dolphins. The NFL would take notice of that hire. He has experience that no coordinator has had and the lesson of time to learn from his mistakes. He has led several teams and ALL of them were perrenial playoff teams even after he left. He may not be here for a long haul due to his age so a few years with him could set us up from this horrific age of Dolphins football.
I'm tired of trying coordinators who haven't been in the big mans seat with the pressure on. I feel we have got to have an established coach who had won in this league already. Marty makes sense because we have the personnel for a 3-4 defense already. We have talent on offense and have big lineman. He would use the run and use the pass.
I know he had Brees and he was a decent QB for him, but that team needed to be kept together and grow and it didn't happen. If it would've they may have won a Super Bowl with that talent filled squad they had.
Just remember Marty had his teams always in the games to the end, at that point he really did his job as a coach it's up to players and playmakers to change or write the history. Unfortunately he had guys who fumbled away opportunities to become legendary and Marty gets the blame. Also, think about all the Dolphin playoff games the last 15-2o years and how many of those were we really in it at the end? Not very many both Ravens losses, the Raiders loss and even Bledsoe's Patriots beat us more than the final score ever indicated. It's been a bad stretch for all of us fin fans.
Shula was tossed out of Miami like yesterday's news for the former Super Bowl winning and tha U's national champion Jimmy Johnson. Shula was an amazing coach (albeit a horrific GM) who deserved fanfare and respect, at the end he didn't get it and many believe, including myself that we have been cursed ever since the way we exiled our legendary and classy great coach Shula! I think bringing in a coach like Schottenheimer would appease the football gods and reverse the doom we have suffered for far too long, lets bring back the good times!
