2014 Expectations with everyone back?

i dont think you make/dont make changes based on any predetermined set of rules. if you like the direction, people keep their job. if you dont, they're fired. what does it matter whether its after 1 year or 10? there are examples of win/fail for both extremes.

I agree with you 100% but we were not talking about firing the coach until after the last two games, that's what I have a problem with.....if he was doing a poor job for the past two yr then I would agree he doesn't deserve a 3rd but you have to look at all 32 games to base this decision and not on emotion of two loses.....

You dont get to scratch the last 2 games to advance your argument

it's really hard to look at the way this season ended and have confidence in this staff moving forward. you can deal with the bills loss if they rebound at home vs the jets, but they couldnt even do that. 39-7 vs two bad QBs on sub .500 teams with the playoffs right there. you couldn't have scripted a worse way for the season to end. they had no answer. why all of the sudden will they have one next year?

There are clearly some questions that need to be answered by this staff, no one is giving them a pass, what I don't agree with is you think this team should have been 12-4 and I disagree, I think we won some game we should have lost and lost some we should have won....I think this team was capable of winning 10 games it came up short but that doesn't mean I want to start over.....to much goes into changing coaches and you should only do so when you are convinced the guys running the show cant get the job done, I don't believe this, I've seen enough to think if they had a better offensive line and RT with another yr under his belt can win a few more games.....if we can upgrade the RB position too it will help and on Defense find a way to get better at the LB position....

When you change coaches you bring in a new system, new practice schedule, how you practice, new position coaches, new way of doing things, a period of coaches learning the players and players learning about the coaches, you also take a chance on not signing your own FA (Grimes comes to mind) they are more likely to sign with the coaches they are familiar with than a guy they no nothing about...with this being such a young team their growth maybe stunted.....we are too close to getting it right to wipe the slate clean

In the National Football League, the franchise tag is a designation a team may apply to a player scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent. The tag binds the player to the team for one year if certain conditions are met.

People are getting silly in their defense of this regime.

If you hire an inferior coach, it doesnt matter how long they are on the job, the results will be the same. Ive said it before and i suspect i'll be saying it again: when you change nothing, nothing actually changes.

Franchise a CB is pretty steep price with Revis making 16 million in a yr, not to mention if you Franchise him he will probably not sign a long term contract and be disgruntled just what we need.....it would cost anywhere from 9-13 million for one yr, he took less money coming off an injury and is expecting to sign a contract with some guarantees...franchise him and see how he reacts....

So you think the team the dolphins put on the field was a playoff team? I don't, the OL was awful the QB was still learning with no running game, the d not good stopping the rush....this team needs an upgrade at a few positions and then it will have a legitimate chance to compete for a title....not many coaches in the game could have taken this team to the playoffs....good luck finding one...i would rather make those upgrades and let the present coaching staff finish the job......

Then resign him to a fair deal. I havent seen any indication that Grimes is married to Philbin and Coyle. And if he is, franchise him. We can afford it. He might complain but he will go out there and play well. Its his livelihood we are talking about, he will work with us. This is likely Grimes' last "real" contract(if your going to try and scare people into keeping this staff, you probably shouldnt use players over 30), he will likely take a good deal if we offer one.

I think this was an 8-8 team. Which is exactly how we played and exactly how we finished. Just because our talent was awful doesnt mean our coaching was great. Both sucked. I have no doubt that other coaches would have fallen short of the playoffs as well, but i suspect many other coaches wouldnt have been outscored 39-7 against two opponents who are rebuilding and using rookie/3rd string quarterbacks during the most important weeks of the entire season. Fire everyone.

Exactly it is his lively hood and he will be one of the top 2 CB FA on the market, why would he work with a team who is hiring a new coach when he can pick the coach he would like to work for? Don't be such a homer that you think every dolphin player will take less money to stay here lol fair deal.....fair deal for who lol he can be over paid if he moves to another team and then add a different coach and I doubt we will hire one the last couple of big names left, there is a reason for that, so you want him to sign a fair deal for the dolphins and play for a coach he doesn't know and team going through another rebuilding, he would be a fool to that......

Ok you keep wishing for the the coach fairy to come and give the dolphins a hall of fame coach....fire everyone, you will be saying that every two yrs as dolphins become the Browns of the south.....

Irrelevant, he shouldnt hit the market. Either he will take a deal that is in keeping with his value(or "fair" as i put it) or he will be franchised. It shouldnt be an issue, the team is the one in control here. If it becomes an issue, then we've really got a problem.

And damned straight i'll keep wishing for the next great coach, i want a Superbowl. Hell, i want multiple Superbowls. I find that less troubling then your apparent acceptance towards losing. But hey, keep giving bad coaches Presidential terms to suddenly become great coaches, because its not like teams can turn it around in a single offseason. On a totally unrelated subject, i am looking forward to the Chiefs, Colts, Chargers, and Eagles games this weekend, i wonder how many years it took those regimes to turn their clubs into winners.

I think if we fix the Oline, we are a 10-6 team. We are not in the shambles the majority of people think we are.

If everybody stays (staff-wise), 6-10 or 7-9 is a real possibility. 1-5 division, seeing as how Buffalo owns us, NE will be back to full strength, and we tend to split with the jests despite Geno Smith.

With the QBs and WRs we face next year, it will be a HUGE problem.

I would think with everyone returning the expectations for 2014 can't be the same. A one and done wild card scenario should lead to management and coaching changes because that's what we should have done this year. I have to believe Ross said he wants a division title or heads will roll.

Who cares. The Dolphins are doomed unless they clean house.

Why are people referencing the schedule? Stuff changes every year in football. Nothing is guaranteed. Look at the Chiefs, they went from worst to first. Did anyone think the Texans would be THIS BAD. We do not know what will happen with injuries, free agency and the draft yet. Crazy.

It never even mattered what our schedule was back in the day with Marino. Never thought we couldn't win. Now, it's like fans never think we can win.
If I honestly thought that Miami was to have 2 or 4 wins next year, I certainly would not be here. I will see what the next 9 months brings first. Perhaps Philbin can have a team ready by then! Instead of waiting 1/2 the season for the lines to gel and the deep threat to emerge.

Land Jimmy Graham, get lucky in the draft by hitting on a talented WR (yeah right) and get lucky in the injury department and I could see us making noise. If Tannehill is as good as Hooops thinks and with Philbins pass happy philosophy I could see Tannehill putting up some huge numbers, like record breaking passing yard type numbers.

On the other hand I could just as easily see none of that happen and Tannehill continues to take punishment and gets banged up and we go 5-11 or something with Devlin.
