2015 Video- Who Would You Rather Have: Derek Carr Or Ryan Tannehill?

I'm going to take the guy with the better mechanics, stronger arm and more durable body.

I'm just left wondering what FinfanInBuffalo really thinks about Thill?

Yep Tannehills coaching sucked, that's the excuse that is used to defend him and I'm using that same excuse for Carr, I'm glad were on the same page and both excuses are valid.

You understand I made no mention of his y/a in Tannehills 1st 3 years being a negative? I simply pointed out that Carr did not have a 6.5 y/a but actually had a 6.8 y/a in 2017 that is on par with Tannehills 1st 3 years. Also I would say that we are pretty much a dink and dunk team which probably plays the biggest factor in Tannes y/a. Especially earlier in his career when he wasn't so great with the deep ball. I suspect this year we'll continue to be a predominantly dink and dunk team even if we have the best OL to date and thats cool, i don't care as long as we're moving toward the end zone and not away from it. Brady made a career out of dink and dunk and nobody says anything about it. But if you constantly call short plays thats going to have a greater impact than just a terrible line.

Lastly

R. Wilson 2015 #32 OL PFF 8.3 y/a
T. Bridgewater 2015 #29 OL PFF 7.2 y/a
P. Rivers 2015 #31 OL PFF 7.2 y/a
C. Palmer 2015 #26 OL PFF 8.6 y/a

M. Cassell 2015 #10 OL PFF 6.3 y/a
J. Flacco 2015 #9 OL PFF 6.8 y/a
S. Bradford 2015 #8 OL PFF 7.0 y/a
D. Carr 2015 #4 OL PFF 7.0 y/a

For reference 7.2 y/a would be 15th in 2017 so that's about middle of the pack.

Not really sure where you are going with this. I simply showed you that Tannehill put up similar numbers to Carr with all the same flaws (worse IMO) and with an OL that couldn't block to save its life. Add to that the fact that he had no running game and a defense that sucked also. Nobody in the league had it as bad as Tannehill from 2013 - 2015. Still he was a decent QB. That alone should convince everyone of his abilities. Add in the 2016 8 game performance and nobody should doubt the guy, but here we are....... still.......

BTW, I love the way Carr throws the ball. I just don't think he has the mental toughness of Tannehill and I wouldn't be disappointed with Carr as the Dolphins QB if the line is better.

Well... considering that I'm from Bakersfield CA, and I refereed many of his games in High School... I'd prefer Carr.

It depends on what Derek Carr. Are we talking the Derek Carr from 2016 that was arguably the MVP of the league before being injured or we talking about the 2017 Derek Carr who was heavily criticized by the coaching staff and media and ended up going into a shell?

I said I believe Carr the potential to be top 5 while Tannehiill will hover around borderline top 10. That's doubting him? Saying his potential is borderline top 10? Must I say he will be the best in the NFL or risk disrespect?

I would love a borderline top 10 QB but if I think I can upgrade that I'm going for it, that goes for any position.

The third way pressure affects Y/A is by causing incomplete passes.

Actually no incompletions have no bearing on y/a. Y/a is yards dived by attempts. If I attempt 200 passes for 1360 yards my y/a is 6.8 weather i complete 140 of 200 or 100 of 200 it's still 6.8. What would change is yards per completion.

Wrong. Incomplete passes has no impact on yards per completion. Your example is messed up because you are assuming that the 100 completions will gain the same number of yards as the 140 completions.

Keep it simple.

QB 1 completes 10 out of 10 for 100 yards (10 yards per completion).

QB 2 completes 7 out of 10 averaging the same 10 yards per completion. He passes for 70 yards and 7 yards per attempt.

I hope this doesn't devolve into a string of posts - one at a time - comparing Tannehill to 30-35 other QBs. EVERYONE over 12 knows the answer is based on opinion and endless subjective stats with endless tangential arguments. Tannehill is the Dolphins QB. The talent around him is improved. It's now up to Tannehill and Gase.

I wasn't specifically referring to you with doubting Tannehill. You're pretty level headed with your assessments of Tannehill. You favor Carr and that's fine. I don't think they are that far apart but I'll take Tannehill.
