26 years of nothing.

bro - i feel you. i am older than you but my earliest real memories are from the 1992 team that went to the afc championship. sketchy memories before that because i was a kid so i don't count that. this generation of fans have been subjected to the worst times in the history of the team.

but thats sports. its meant for entertainment. its not life and death. i had to teach myself that along the way because being a fan of the dolphins can have a crazy effect on your psyche.

will the dolphins be good this year? probably not. history tells us they will probably fall somewhere between 6-10 and 8-8. but who knows. thats why they play the games out and with the nfl you never know. at least its not like you are a diehard astros fan or something where you know going into the year you have zero chance of being good because of payroll and such.

and you know what? for as boring the dolphins have been in some people's eyes - i for one find them extremely entertaining. they always seem to have some dark cloud over them, some scandal, some way of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, and just utterly hilarious loser-ish plays / calls / management / etc.

so sit back, try to relax, and just accept what the dolphins give you. you can't control it. laugh it off. you can still be a diehard fan but dont take it personally.

Well....

#1) I am super excited for the new offense. Not having dinasaurs like Mike Sherman and Dan Henning is something to be excited about.

#2) Jarvis Landry. I am Super excited to see the rookie play. I don't remember a rookie getting quite as much praise from all the usually debbie downer Dolphin Beat writers.

#3) The make or break year of Ryan Tannehill. I believe in Tanny, but he has been inconsistant. I think if he crashes and burns this year we will turn the page. Either way we should know if we have our QB for the next handful of years or we will have to start a-new.

#4) I just love football. I've suffered with Miami and its a lot more enjoyable when they are doing well, but I can watch a Jags/Titans game and be interested. Its Football Baby!!

I've posted many reasons why I am pessimistic about our playoff chances this season in other threads, so let me post some optimism for you:

1. Two other teams in our division are quarterbacked by anthropomorphic garbage cans.
2. Outside of Denver, New England and maybe Kansas City, the entire AFC has more holes than that police car that gets shot up in Die Hard.
3. Our receiving corps should be improved this year, meaning that when we get our usual crop of devastating knee injuries, we might still be able to score points.
4. I am now starting to come around to believe that we will actually have a professional, competent offensive line this season. At least I'm pretty sure they won't be holding meetings in strip clubs.
5. Likewise, I now feel comfortable saying that Bill Lazor will be a huge improvement over Mike Sherman. I made this determination after a doctor informed me that Bill Lazor demonstrates all the classic signs of experiencing normal brain activity.
6. Cameron Wake's midriff has been exposed in EVERY single official team photograph of him that's been released this season in which said midriff is in the picture. I'll take that as an omen.

But seriously though, we got better in the off-season. The schedule is tougher, but the team got better.

I've been a die hard phin fan for since a kid . I'm always excited about a new year. But I don't know if it's that I'm getting older or that I'm just sick of losing . But I'm just not excited about this year . I know I'm being a downer but maybe I just need some encouragement . I think the most exciting game I've ever witnessed as a fan was beating the undefeated bears . the Greg Camarillo catch in overtime . Maybe a few Dan Marino games when I was a kid . And beating the jets to make the playoffs with Pennington . I need encouragement because I just don't see this team doing much.

They've just been mediocre over the last 6 years. If you really want to talk about heart breaking, gut wrenching, disappointment I will point you to 1990, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 200, 2001, 2002. The early 90's especially. I always found that the hope I had for a Super Bowl in those years always outweighs the mediocrity of now. Now, I know they're average and, maybe, with some improvement they can get to the playoffs. Back then there was Super Bowl talk and it never came to fruition.

We did that with Parcells, and it didn't work out because there was no Andrew Luck sitting there at number one, we were just hitting an unfortunate draft year. Similar thing actually when Cam was HC and we had #9, and there was nothing on the board at all. We just need a little bit of luck and timing....

There was no luck involved with Indy drafting Luck.
It was a well thought out plan to "suck for luck". Anyone that saw what happened knows they lost on purpose to get Luck.
We even had people here calling for "suck for Luck".

Once Manning was gone from Indy, they knew exactly what to do and they did it. Right or wrong, they got the QB they wanted.
They purposely threw games and made sure they had the first overall pick. Any team at any time can do the very same thing.

You went to the infamous cleo lemon to Greg Camarillo overtime game? Weren't we like 0-13 at the time? Sheesh....you are a fan. I give you props.

honestly, I can understand his feelings here. I'm not this down on the Phins, but Im also a Suns fan and this is my exact feelings on the Suns. They look like theyre getting better now, but man for the last few years, I didnt watch the NBA at all.

i'm 26 too brotha. still optimistic as hell about this season, though. way moreso than other seasons. the reports from training camp are what's actually got me excited. yeah there's been snap issues and drops, but the talent this year seems to be next level compared to other seasons. and jarvis landry is the next HOF miami dolphin.

I would not say it has been 26 years of nothing. We had some good times back in the Marino era. I would not have traded it for anything else from my sports teams. Marino was the man.

Now the last 13 years or so....... NOTHING.

The last really great Dolphins memory I have is the Marino comeback against Seattle in the playoffs. I've tried to blot out of my mind everything that happened after that.

Actually the piss poor football is a recent thing in the almost 50 year history of the franchise. It's unfortunate the younger fans have only seen the bad times so to speak and probably get tired of hearing about our long proud history. I got spoiled early on so no matter what I'm always hopeful this will be the year we get back to those glory days. Wish they would hurry up while I still have ability to operate the remote control.

I am excited. I know we still have some issues but i would so depressed if we didnt have Dolphins. I think this team will be making alot of noise shortly.

Because Dan brought home all the hardware...
Not trying to hate on Dan because he brought hope every year but what are you showing for it??
