I'm disappointed that we lost Carroll, but I think that Hickey formed the view that the additions of Delmas and Finnegan, plus the projected improvement of players like Jamar Taylor, Will Davis and Michael Thomas, that our DBs should be decent. And if Finnegan is fully healthy, don't be surprised if he returns to good form. You know that he is betting on himself to make a full recovery like Grimes did last season. They could be quite dynamic playing together.Glad im not the only person who said.... Who the **** is Chris Owens?
One thing i do not understand is... Why we let so many defensive guys go for no reason. Carroll and Clemons didnt need replacements. They were serviceable players who played very well last season. Would have rather not have taken a chance on the two guys we signed as their replacements, and used the money we saved on them to fix our RT position in Free agency.
Then we could have went BPA with our first round pick. Could have gone Dix/Dennar/Verrett/Buccannon in the first instead who were all rated higher. Could end up being busts who knows, but rather draft skill positions and sign proven corn then vice versa.
Lost a safety, signed a safety. Lost a DT, signed a DT. Lost a CB who played part of each season, signed a cb and have 3 guys from the last 2 drafts to fill in. I don't see how the argument that free agency really hurt Miami. Then figure they only gave up more than 24pts in a few games, with a fairly inconsistent and inefficient offense, and this defense is just fine. 15 or better IMHO.
It also bears noting that the hatred for Bleacher Report is really old hat. Tastes in music and fashion and movies change on a dime but for some reason everyone seems to stick with their original impression of Bleacher Report. Doesn't matter that there are way more talented (and highly paid) football writers working there than there at any of our local newspapers, to give a comparison that's laughable in their favor.
They're still working on shedding some of the old amateurish weight but casually dismissing anything that comes from there with a wave of the hand is to identify yourself as a bit of a dunce, imo.
I wondered the same...
Delmas....often hurt?
He played 98% of the defensive snaps for the Lions last season....

He also played 0% of the practice snaps. He was held out of practice every week to save his knees for gameday. He was listed on the injury report every week last year as questionable.
He may have been able to get by last year because he didn't have to practice under Jim Schwartz, but Philbin doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who would let a player miss practice every week.
I believed Patterson missed significant practice time as well and still played the game....also the GM and coaches know what they were getting when they signed him...
I am not as sure as you are. Why didnt Detroit want to resign Delmas? and why did we only give him a 1 year contract if they were so sure his knees wouldn't be a problem? I would bet money he doesn't play 16 games next season.
