32nd ranked D?

I'm not saying he will, I'm not a huge fan of the signing due to his potential to miss time...I was just pointing out he didn't miss at all last season...

And all I'm saying is that he was only able to play 16 games because he wasn't required to practice during the season. Jim Schwartz didn't strike me a a guy that held his players accountable, and that idea was demonstrated by the lack of discipline displayed by the Detroit players on the field. I don't think Philbin is amenable to trading off practice time for playing time. You can bring up Patterson, but he was held out of games because he couldn't practice, and was eventually put on IR because. I doubt Delmas will be able to play a full season if required to practice.

Getting rid of Paul Soliai was a mistake, but I don't think we have the worst defense in the damn NFL.

It sucks losing him, but the real mistake would have been to pay him $32 million over 5 years like Atlanta did. That's just way too much for 2 down 4-3 DT.

solia is playing the nose in atlantas new 34...as such he's worth that contract even as a 2 down player...

It also bears noting that the hatred for Bleacher Report is really old hat. Tastes in music and fashion and movies change on a dime but for some reason everyone seems to stick with their original impression of Bleacher Report. Doesn't matter that there are way more talented (and highly paid) football writers working there than there at any of our local newspapers, to give a comparison that's laughable in their favor.

They're still working on shedding some of the old amateurish weight but casually dismissing anything that comes from there with a wave of the hand is to identify yourself as a bit of a dunce, imo.

I think the content has a lot to do with it. I don't read a lot from Bleacher Report. If their other reports are as good as this one, it is no wonder why people would be inclined to dismiss it. And they would not be identifying themselves as a bit of a dunce for doing so. IMO.

added Louis Delmas at safety and Cortland Finnegan at corner in free agency, which should will help

It seems like they still have quite a bit of that amateurish weight that still needs to be shed.

Once teams figured out how bad our LB was last year without Dansby we were in trouble. Every third and long when they pulled big Paul off the field they would convert on us. Math is simple no proven replacement for Dansby yet and now big Paul is gone which opens up the run on all 3 downs not just 3rd down. I understand the logic for ranking us so bad on the defensive side of the ball. Ya gotta remember when we threw the ball all the time when Marinio was here are defenses were always finished in the lower half every year in rankings. Part of the price of going west coast. Now I thoought I heard some rumbling that Lazor the offensive coordinator wanting a more balanced attach but our running backs are not built to ground and pound. For those of you who have been fans for awhile our defensive rankings never improved until Jimmy Johnson took the ball out of Dan Marinios hands and made a determined effort at a running game. PS Those 2 beat up defensive backs make me very nervous also I see them as IR canidates but hey maybe we will get lucky there too.

A good 2-gap 3-4 NT is worth that, but I don't think a 2 down 4-3 DT is worth that. Soliai is worth more in the Atlanta system than he is in the Miami system imo.

We will all be happy to have this guy when we play the nfc north.. All those teams hate this guy..

Same as Earl Mitchell being worth more in Miami's 4-3 system then Houston's 3-4....

Mitchell has health issues. Big paul didn't.. PS was a force and letting him go will hurt..

Not really... Houston plays a 1 gap 3-4 that's more of a 5-2. Earl Mitchell is going to have effectively the same worth in both systems.

What health issues do you speak of....as far as I can tell he's never missed a game...

Chronic arthritis.. Treatments on a regular basis..

Hasn't missed a game...and do you have a link to this because I haven't seen anything on this (as opposed to Delmas and taylor who have well documented injuries histories)
