I think the content has a lot to do with it. I don't read a lot from Bleacher Report. If their other reports are as good as this one, it is no wonder why people would be inclined to dismiss it. And they would not be identifying themselves as a bit of a dunce for doing so. IMO.

Every author should be judged differently. Omar Kelly being an idiot does not make the other writers at the SS idiots, too.

A piece like this one -- ranking the defenses in the NFL -- is the kind of **** assignment no writer wants to write, especially this far ahead of the season. It's something people click on so editors make them do it. The fact that it was passed off to a lower level of writer and he did a poor job doesn't surprise me.

surprised no ones mentioned the obvious elephant in the room regarding how this defense will perform in 2014...dion jordan...specifically his pass rush impact...this defense can be formidable even with it wearing an obvious attack via the run target if dion jordan can become a legitimate pass rusher...a true win pass rush option on the edge against nfl tackles for when we do actually get teams into passing situations...

if that doesnt happen this teams gonna have a hard time getting off the field on defense...already gonna see a lot of 2nd down situations that favor the offense ie 2nd and 6's etc...dion jordan is the make or break player on the d

Oh, it's bleacher report. That explains it.

"The Dolphins allowed seven defensive players to leave in free agency, including Chris Clemons, Paul Soliai, Chris Owens and Nolan Carroll.

None of these weaknesses were addressed in the NFL draft, though they added Louis Delmas at safety and Cortland Finnegan at corner in free agency, which should will help.

The problem is that help could be minimal, as Delmas is often hurt and Finnegan is coming off a very poor season which might point to a decline."

Miami gave up the 8th least amount of points in 2013. Now they're the worst defense in the league? 100% logical. Chris Clemons is replaced by Louis Delmas. Paul Soliai is replaced by Earl Mitchell. Who the hell is Chris Owens? Nolan Carroll is replaced by Cortland Finnegan and perhaps Jamar Taylor and Will Davis might actually do something.

So technically the article was right in that Miami didn't replace their losses in the draft but they did replace then via free agency.

Carroll could have stuck his head in there at the goal line
When Geno Smith ran it in. He just stood there and watched him walk in.
We need guys that will fly to the ball no matter what.

I saw our defense as "bend but don't break" for most of the season. (The Saints definitely broke us.)

The only defender of value we lost IMO is Soliai. I've never been high on Clemons, Carroll, really any of those guys, I think they contributed to the mediocrity of the pass-defense. Sure, they were improving slowly, but they weren't great starters in the least bit, and didn't scare anybody.

The LBs need work, but it's only year 2 of Ellerbe and Wheeler. They could technically still change it around. With Dion in the mix on plays, I think big things happen

I think the DB group is better than people want to give credit. More aggressive playmakers to complement Grimes and what once was Reshad Jones, and Aikens and Taylor can still develop without being trial by fire.
