4th and 5 a GREAT play by Tannehill (at first I thought not....)

When I watched the review, and then heard him confirm it post-game, I realized what happened.

Clay made a fantastic catch reaching back for a fast ball that appeared to be badly thrown. In actuality, RT had a LB bearing down on him directly in the path between him and Clay. This was designed to be a QUICK throw and any delay would blow up the play.

He had to alter his motion to throw AROUND the defender- just past his reach but still get the ball there fast and close enough to still make it catchable.

Had he lofted over, the play would fail. Had he run around defender, play would fail. Only thing to do was throw it with a bit of side-arm, but with velocity, and still get it close enough to Clay. Clay made all the incredible plays after that, but RT had 0% margin for error and had to figure that out in a split second with just a moment's double-clutch (actually a semi-clutch). You can see him hesitate for just a moment.

This guy is incredible!
 
Also adjusted very well on Thigpin's TD toss as coverage was expected to be outside leverage but they gave us inside instead and Ryan read it perfectly. T-hill's got me slightly over-excited about our team's potential and I love it.
 
Well on the TD pass to Thigpen Tannehill actually said he didn't even see Thigpen when he threw the ball. He said McKinnie was blocking his view and he just threw it based on his feel for where everyone was on the field.

Oddly enough I heard that from T-hill on his post game on-field interview. (Or so I thought. Maybe I shouldn't have fired up the victory joint). Regardless, great game from him today.
 
yes, RT sd that about the TD pass- didn't even see him. His confidence is just growing game after game- series after series. Did you catch what the play by play guy said just before that play? Something to the effect "this is the special knack everyone is talking about RT in the last two minutes- he showed it before the half and now on this drive if they score..." Yeah, I'm getting over excited also!
 
Confidence breeds confidence. Clay is getting a lot of attention for his great play this season and he wants more. You hope it rubs off on other guys, they all start to play better. Coaches gain confidence and trust and start making more aggressive calls which breeds even more confidence.

They say this is the time of year any team can get hot and make a run, why not us?

I did not like the call at all and still don't. I firmly believe that in order to get a first down you throw to the maker.

Clay made a great play that carried the load of the team.
 
I have to say that even thought it worked out, that play call for 4th and 5 was terrible. How do you call a play that requires a throw BEHIND the line of scrimmage there? They are very lucky it worked out and both Tannehill and Clay deserve huge credit for making that play work, along with some good blocking out on the edge. Despite the bad play call they executed and kept possession, but that was the game right there.

He threw to the "maker". The play maker...big play Clay. 1 catch for 6 yards and possibly the biggest catch of the game.
 
i also read that belichick put aqib talib on clay. if that is the case, the "genius" deciding he had to put his best cover corner on our h-back/tight end is tremendous respect for clay, but, more importantly, that respect resulted in more space for hartline, wallace, matthews and moore to operate out there. crazy!

Honestly I thought the call was a genius call especially since it worked. New England dropped back to defend the first down. Only reason it looks bad is Hightower disrupted the play and caused Tanny to adjust, but if you look at how it developed, NE was caught off guard. Hightower making that play IMO is the only thing that prevented that from being an even bigger gain because Clay had to adjust to the ball.
