51 Olinemen signed or drafted

Don't be surprised if Miami spends the #8 pick on Reiff out of Iowa. Coach Philbin eluded to better play from QB starts with better play from the OL and Miami is moving to zone blocking which is what Iowa does.

The offensive line guru coaches are not in charge of the drafting and signing FA's, that would be have been Ireland/Parcells doing.

What's amazing isn't the number of offensive linemen drafted/signed. It's the fact that we drafted/signed that many offensive lineman AND the o-line was still so bad last year that it set the record for most sacks allowed. Great job of acquiring talent by Parcells' lackey, and what an effort coaching them up by the supposed o-line guru.

I really don't think that's as bad as it sounds for a position that you field five players from.

For comparison, the Dolphins also signed 10 different quarterbacks in that same time frame. Don't forget that a good percentage of the team's signings in general are guys that have little chance to see much time on the field, but they might need as a backup or even just to get a good look at what kind of player they are. That's just the league.

My problem with this is we re-signed Murtha to a 1.9 Million 1 year deal who we picked up off the Lions PS and he played one pre-season with this team. How does PS with the Lions and 1 pre-season with the Phins warrant that kind of money?

Austin Spitler is making 1M playing special teams and back up LB.
1.9M doesn't seem that excessive to me.
Murtha actually looked pretty good at LT while Jake was sidelines with injury.
I think he will be a good player for us.

Wait one minute.

I personally see a very very telling trend here.

We have had 3 solid Olinemen in the last ohhhhhh 12 years?

Guess what, all three of them have been first round picks.

Anybody else having problems connecting the dots here???

Yup, where other teams win Super Bowls and form cohesive OL units using later picks (Giants are prime example), we can't evaluate talent beyond the top 15-20 players....and even that's a crapshoot with these azzclowns.

Murtha has started 4 games in 3 years
Another Drew Mormino

Dam, just because your 325lbs will not make you a good lineman........come on Miami. stop picking up crap.
But on the other hand DeCastro if a ****ing beast, pick him up at #8............

Careful, in 2008, Long was ****ing beast and homerun pick, intead of less talented pick of Ryan, and still people continue to bring up the Long over Ryan so called mistake garbage.

I must admit though, this time I do want QB, because there are 2 that will be better then Ryan, and 5 that could be as good.

The club’s first pick under the guidance of Bill Parcells and Jeff Ireland was left tackle Jake Long at No. 1 overall in 2008 and not quarterback Matt Ryan 1 overall pick in 2008. And as if to make sure everyone understood that was part of a grand plan, guard Justin Smiley was the group’s first unrestricted free agent signing.

In the ensuing years, Miami drafted five offensive linemen, including two first-rounders, signed five unrestricted free agents including high-priced deals for Smiley and Jake Grove, re-signed Vernon Carey to the biggest contract ever given a right tackle at the time, and made 42 other moves adding undrafted or street free agent offensive linemen to the locker room.

That’s a grand total of 53 moves, adding 50 offensive linemen from 2008 through 2011. This year, the team already has added veteran Artis Hicks in free agency, bringing the total number of linemen signed or drafted since 2008 to 51.
And out of that number, the Dolphins have three starters.

I'm a quarter back and dolphins should sign me. Then I will demand them to bring the two football players in your sig to switch out center for me. It would make me happy about the offseason!

There will be a lot more moves cause we're shifting philosophy. Out with the power running game in with the ZBS. Now we need more athletic, quicker lineman and there are a few guys on the O-line right now that I don't think fit the mold.

But we knew this was going to happen when we all chanted for Sparano to get fired. Change is inevitable, I just hope that it happens quicker this time around and hopefully we find the right pieces to the puzzle instead of trying to fit square pegs into round holes.
