A change for FinHeaven? All Premium Members... Opinions NEEDED!

I forgot to add, I don't remember who it was. But someone mentioned the idea of making members have a certain amount of posts before they start a thread. I think that's a good idea as well.

Circumventing the profanity filter would would be an example of negative points accured.

I like the idea of colors for special usergroups. Maybe we can knock down the search wait time for paid usergroups.

Sorry I am late getting in on this. first of all I think those of us here in the Premium area are really not here for the
perks". We are here for two reasons. One is we want to help the site that we love. The second is it is a place to get away from the casual idiot.

With that said, I think you should create the mid level membership. The funding is important, and I think it would generate a lot of interest. You just have to think through each level of membership to make sure there are distinct values to each so that there are truly clear cut tiers. I think you need to keep this forum exclusive to the Premies, and perhaps just offer them the T-shirt, the discount, a "members" icon, and the ability to enter contest exclusive to them. That is plenty.

I would agree to that strucure in a heart beat.

I like awing's points idea a lot.

I also like your suggestions, byroan. Less search wait, no limit on times between posts; members' names in the color of their membership level is also very cool. I think the best idea of all is to make a number of posts necessary to post a thread; I would even go sa far as to suggest watching members carefully and take away the priviledge even after they've earned it, if they abuse it.

If i post in the main forum i get a radio button to choose one of the following 3 options:

Allow all
Allow members
Premium Only

Now this post will go in the main forum of any other forum for that matter. depending on what i choose each user will be able to see my post or not based on there membership level and my choice in my post.

So i log in and look at the main page perhaps i see a posts with color codes. this allows me to determine who can see this post so aqua posts would be fore everyone, white posts would be for members and orange posts would be for premium. this way you can display all of the posts in the forum and have the ability to see what level each is posted at. Does that make it any clearer or did I make it worse?

That's way too confusing. At least in my opinion.

All very good points mentioned here.

I'm not feelin the idea of having multiple colors on the main forum though... that would drive me crazy. I like having it seperated forums and such.

Furthermore, I think the Premium Member forum should be completely invisible. Nobody can see it except for Premium Members. The mid-range forum; however, should be visible on the forums list... however, if someone clicks on it, they can't see any posts. I think this is best because it advertises itself. Some members don't even know that we have a premium membership, much less what it is. By having it constantly on front, people become more aware that it's there.

As for the search limit perk and other things, that shouldn't be a problem. I'm not sure what I can and cannot do... but I always try my hardest to find a hack. Some things are site wide, while others are simply usergroup based. The username font color is something that can be done relatively easy as well.

Finally, the "store" for point and what not... this can be implemented. It's just a matter of time. However, since there is a demand... I'll look into it.

Once again, thanks to everyone with their input... I look forward to reading more!

I think that the three tier membership idea is a great one. For my part, I'd like to see it kept as simple as possible. Membership has it's own rewards. As fin-atic suggested, there are few, if any, of the Premium members who are here for the perks. I think there is a sizable segment who post here, who would pay $30.00 just for their own forum and knowing that their contribution helped keep our Dolfan home solvent.

I think that having a members-only forum that is visible to everyone but only post-able by any paying member, the non-paying forum in which everyone could post, and this one, which would remain invisible and it's membership, invite only.

The simpler, the better. ;)

Good stuff all around. This is really a cool thing.

Next, we need to decide what we're going to name this forum and it's members. We talked about Blue, Aqua and Orange. If nothing else, the staff could use those colors for our own reference.

Should we call it the "Miami Dolphins - VIP" forum?? The Aqua forum?? I think whatever we do, we should keep the naming the same. Example: Premium members have the Premium forum. So if we call these guys VIPs, we should name it the Miami Dolphins - VIP" forum or whathaveyou.

Once we do that, Penny or Andrew could make a tag and we'll dole them out. :)

What about using past players to describe the forum levels?

I think this forum should be the Dan Marino level, or the shula level, the next level would take some thought, but the bottom level could be the fiedler level, that way more people would pay just to get out of the Jay level.

Okay....I've read everything and in the event that I may be far behind in my thinking, ignore my thoughts, if I'm up to speed and you like what I'm thinking then by all means let me know...:)

First of all, this level should not be a level at all...what I mean is, no one should know that there is a third level except those that are in it...I think I speak for everyone when I say that all of us are doing this for the site, not necessarily what we are getting out of it...there isn't a reason to sell us on anything...I would be in this level whether there were more perks or not because keeping this site alive is perk enough for me.....

The second level should be what everyone thinks the premium level is now....talk without the trolls, or on a more inetlligent and real level, should be the number one drawing card..... all the perks like discounts and special contests shoulkd go from these people on up...

I also think $24 a year ...
"JUST TWO DOLLARS A MONTH!!!"...

Two dollars a month gets you this, gets you that, gets you away, gets you prizes, gets you dicounts, gets you Deeper...Gets you respect.

...and it keeps FinHeaven running strong.

Buy now, move on up the food chain....
...will fill that forum with members...you might even could break it down to $12 for 6 months....

So, two "official" tiers and our "secret" teir (filled with Miami Dolphins players and cheerleaders) and lowering the price just a bit, would be my idea.

As long as the threads themselves are NOT visible to free membership.... :)

Darin, I like your concept. However, I don't know if that will go over well. Think about it, for one, if you think you're a Premium Member then I come along and say, "Hey wait! There is something we didn't tell you..."

I don't know, it's like we're not being completely honest.

The back side is if we tell everyone there is a three-tier system, and the top most tier is invite only... some may feel that's a slap in the face. However, if we simply say that it's invite only and limited to a certain amount of members... then we're covered. It's basically saying that we're full - thus is why you're not in yet.

The middle level has no limit or capacity. If you want in, pay the $30 a year and get away to your own exclusive forum.

Thoughts?

If you are going to go 3-tiers then you have to have that third tier open for people to pay to get in. If someone wants to hand away $84 per year.....let them!!! If they screw up in the Top Tier, then throw them out and keep their money!!! But at least let them in if they want to pay! Just let them know the rules beforehand be be upfront about it.
